ESFA U11 COUNTY FINALS

On Friday, 12th January our Under 11 girls went to compete in the Football County Finals at Strode College, playing against the area winners around our region.

The pitches were long and narrow which made it difficult for the girls to play their normal game of football. However the girls knew exactly what they needed to do: to play a short, passing  game, which they all did superbly.
Throughout the tournament we were in Group B, and had to play 5 games. We won 4 and drew 1, which was enough to win the group and progress through to the Semi Finals.
Special mention must go to: Maddy Durrant for her clinical goal finishing which was outstanding all day, to Olivia Fuller for her work rate - a machine running around everywhere working tirelessly, and to Ella Saxon for scoring what was goal of the season for me. Ella saw the keeper come off her line, and scored from the half way line, the ball flying into the top corner. Her parents who were there supporting couldn't believe what they had seen! This fantastic goal reminded me of David Beckham's goal against Wimbledon in 1996. Cerys Webb was outstanding playing in different positions, someone who can play absolutely anywhere is a real useful tool have in your team .

In the Semi Finals, we were up against Trinity School.  We knew this would be a tough match, and it was. Hugh Sexey's won 1-0 and booked themselves in to the final against Portishead School. With great football being played by both schools, this game ended in 1-1 draw and went into extra time. At the end of extra time the score was still 1-1, so the game was decided by the dreaded penalty shootout.
Goal keeper Edie Pargeter was superb, saving 3 of Portishead's spot kicks. Despite the mounting pressure Olivia Fuller, Maddy Durrant, and Aida Rothery scored 3 great penalties and won Hugh Sexey's the cup!
Hugh Sexey's now progress through to the Regionals finals - date to be confirmed.
A very well done to all  10 girls who participated on the day. It was a truly brilliant team effort; you played as a team and played for each other, which was the key for me. Well Done!
