Year 7 Football - Fairlands 2 - 2 Hugh Sexey

The boys football team put in a spirited and disciplined performance in a typically competitive local derby. Will, George and Oli were given starts as a reward for their hard work in training and they didn't disappoint. Will was sprightly down the left hand side and nearly grabbed one of his now customary poachers goals. George slotted into the left back birth and looked very accomplished throughout and Oli looked energetic throughout. The wide pitch suited the lung bursting running of Fin and over the course of the game he tirelessly worked up and down the right flank. Jamie took the number 1 jersey and gave a very commanding performance between the sticks. Fairlands started brightly and it was Jamie's feline like reactions that kept them at bay. As the game settled Hugo and Dennis started to control the midfield battle. Dylan put in another typically brilliant performance at the back. Anticipating danger and then showing the skill to play the ball out of defence. Stone also put in a shift that is now becoming customary. Tough in the tackle and no inch given throughout. Dennis open the scoring at the start of the second half by ghosting into the box and calmly slotting the ball past the onrushing keeper. Moments later Fairlands equalised after neat approach play and a well timed 3rd person run. Hugh Sexey regrouped and after an early cross by Fin was  turned towards goal by Dennis the keeper made an excellent point blank save. Dennis controlled the ricocheting ball beautifully and after juggling it over the defenders head he swiftly volleyed the ball in the top corner for a goal that had shades of Paul "Gazza" Gascoignes famous finish against Scotland at Euro 96. Fairlands continued to press and they eventually profited at the end with an equaliser that gave a fair reflection of an evenly balanced game.

Well done to the year 7 team on what has been a very enjoyable season.
