YEAR 8 MENDIP ROUNDERS TOURNAMENT-21st June 2017.

I am thrilled to announce that after a very hot, intense afternoon the girls emerged the Victors of the tournament. Their opening match was against Wells Blue who had beaten them convincingly in a friendly last week. The girls went in with their heads held high and fielded with accuracy and commitment to hold Wells to only 2 ½ rounders. Captain Evie Puddy gave lots of encouragement and the girls hit their way to 4 ½ rounders, a great start which gave them much confidence. The next opponents were Selway who put up a good fight but were no match for our girls, Honey Mai Rich on form, fielding well at 3rd post.  Fairlands were strong opponents and made the girls work for their win, consistent bowling by Alice Roy and a great catch by Kaitlin Pettitt keeping team morale high. The final game against Oakfield saw our team needing ½ a rounder from the last ball to win the game.  Evie puddy stepped up to the square and smashed it deep before securing a rounder to finish. All the girls played brilliantly, I was impressed by their team spirit and support for one another. Abbie Bewley stood out as the overall player of the tournament playing the important position of 2nd post and not dropping a ball all afternoon. The girls have now qualified to represent Mendip at the Summer sports festival held at Millfield at the beginning of July. A great achievement and one they should be proud of!
