Year 8 Production - The Lion King

Hakuna Matata! Just before half term, the quiet village of Blackford, accustomed to sheep, cows and horses, was transformed into the African savannah, alive with lions, gazelles, hyenas and giraffes, during Hugh Sexey Middle School's performance of Disney's 'Lion King'. Around eighty pupils were involved in the year 8 production, with pupils and staff working hard since September to get everything ready. While the cast was busy learning lines, songs and dance routines, the props club gave up lunchtimes to make everything from jungle plants to elephant bones, while others from the digital leaders' club put together a short 'green-screen' video, and a committee organised much-needed fundraising events. In the final week, the backstage crew was formed, taking responsibility for lighting, sound, and the smooth running of the show, with fantastic help from two students from Weston College who led a team of pupils doing face-painting. The show was enjoyed by parents and pupils alike, as well as the first schools children who were invited to see the dress rehearsal. While staff have a much-needed rest, pupils from year 7 are already thinking of ideas for next year!
