On Friday 28th April, Year 8 were visited by the Young Shakespeare Company, who performed a 90 minute interactive session interspersed with key scenes in performance from Romeo and Juliet. The performance allowed opportunities for student participation and we saw some fantastic performances from some of our students. The presentation focused on characterisation and staging and included a very dramatic and exciting demonstration of stage fighting.
Year 8 pupils were extremely enthused by the whole afternoon and comments such as 'That was amazing!' could be heard from numerous boys and girls. There was a real buzz as a result.
The afternoon enabled pupils to deepen their understanding of key characters, themes and plot of the play and has helped to prepare them for future study of the play at GCSE level.
