LES ANIMAUX BIZARRES - strange animals... and adjectives! (Thursday 4th February)

L'OBJECTIF:

- To put adjectives in the right place

- Some of you might also practice putting the right endings on adjectives

Here's the first adjective for today: MIGNON = CUTE!

CHATON MIGNON - CUTE KITTEN!

TASK 1: READ THIS

Remember that in French, adjectives usually go AFTER the noun they describe, so...

 

a blue pen = un stylo bleu 

(a pen blue)

 

a curious pig = un cochon curieux 

(a pig curious)

 

There are a few exceptions... GRAND and PETIT go before the noun, like in English. So does JOLI which means pretty!

 

Un petit, joli cochon bleu 

(a small, pretty, blue pig)

 

TASK 2: DÉCIDEZ

Write 1-7 on some paper.

For each question below, write down which phrase is correct, A or B

Then listen to the recording to check. 

Repeat the French out loud each time!

Which is correct?

A) Une giraffe stupide.

B) Une stupide giraffe.

Stop! Have you written your answer? Now listen to see if you were right... and repeat it out loud.

Which is correct?

A) Un éléphant multi-coloré.

B) Un multi-coloré éléphant.

Which is correct?

A) un nerveux panda

B) un panda nerveux

6:

Which is correct?

A) Un hippopotame grand.

B) Un grand hippopotame.

(think about this one!)

7:

Which is correct?

A) Un zèbre petit et intelligent.

B) Un petit zèbre intelligent.

C) Un petit intelligent zèbre.

TASK 3: CONNECTEZ

Match up the French and English phrases.

Write the French phrases with their English meanings.

 

For greater challenge, skip past the English list and try to translate the French phrases by yourself - from memory or using https://www.wordreference.com/

TASK 4: INVENTEZ! 

 

Title: LES ANIMAUX BIZARRES

Make a poster describing strange animals.

 

Dans mon zoo imaginaire, il y a....

In my imaginary zoo, there is...

 

Include 3-5 animals (with pictures if you like!) with adjectives, e.g.

  ...un éléphant extraordinaire

  ...un hamster violet et jaune

  ...une giraffe horrible

 

You can use words from the writing frame below...

...or you can look up some new animals or adjectives at https://www.wordreference.com/.

When you look up a new animal, check if it is nm or nf (masculine or feminine).

For feminine animals, try to use the feminine adjective endings.
