Local Partnership Body

Hugh Sexey Church of England Local Partnership Body

Hugh Sexey Church of England Middle School is a part of the Wessex Learning Trust whose Trustees hold the ultimate responsibility for the Partnership of each Wessex Learning Trust School.

The Department for Education’s Academy Trust Handbook sets out the Trust’s responsibilities regarding governance – Academy trust handbook 2024 (publishing.service.gov.uk)

Wessex Learning Trust Trustees delegate certain key roles and responsibilities to the School’s Local Partnership Board (LPB) and these are set out clearly in the Scheme of Delegation which can be seen on the Wessex Learning Trust website.

We value the expertise and support that our Local Partnership Board brings. Please see below a list of our Local Partners.

If you would like to contact the Chair of the Local Partnership Board, or you are interested in becoming a Local Partner, please email the Clerk to the Partnership Board (Mrs Beverley Lloyd-Jones - Email clerktothegovernors@hughsexey.org.uk)

I am delighted to have taken on the role of Chair of Partners in September 2017.  I have been a governor since June 2015 and find it really rewarding to use my skills and experience to enhance and improve our children’s education. I am a qualified Chartered Accountant and before moving to Somerset in 2004, I was a Senior Manager at the London Stock Exchange.  Since moving to Wedmore I have been actively involved with the local community, especially with regards to schools and young people.  I am a Brownie leader, am actively involved with St Mary’s Church and organise the NCT Feed & Change tent at Glastonbury Festival.

I am the Vicar of Wedmore, Blackford and Theale, and so Hugh Sexey Middle School falls within my parish. I have been a Foundation Partner at the school since my arrival in Wedmore in summer 2008.

Time spent as a Local Partner of this school is very satisfying and one particular highlight has been the privilege of being part of the interview process leading to the appointment of the Headteacher and Assistant Heads.

It is a privilege to be joining the Local Partner body at HSMS. I hope that I will be able to contribute in some part to the ongoing success and development of the school. I have lived in Wedmore for 7 years in semi-retirement. During this time I have been able to develop my interest in gardening and am fortunate to look after several beautiful local gardens. I was a secondary teacher for 28 years. My subject specialisms were Religious Education and Physical Education. During my teaching career I held a range of responsibilities including teaching and learning, behaviour and attendance, safeguarding and CPD. I was a Deputy Head for 10 years. I hope that my skill set will be of use to the HSMS community.

As an orchestral musician, examiner and educator, I have worked across Britain and Europe

I’m passionate about enabling pupils to have music as a core life experience, using my knowledge and training to support and encourage students with their learning. I’ve been fortunate enough to work in many prestigious environments, but I’m proudest of having helped people of all ages and stages in their musical journey, to reach their goals irrespective of their background or advantages in life.

With my daughter at Hugh Sexey’s and my son in a local primary school, I believe it is important to ‘give something back’ to my community and relish the opportunity to support the school as a Local Partner.

I am a retired Army officer. I have served in a wide range of countries including Germany, USA, Pakistan and the Middle East, and completed operational tours of duty in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Cyprus and Iraq, as well as several staff appointments in the Ministry of Defence. My background is from Northern Ireland, but my wife Fiona and I have lived in Stone Allerton for over 30 years and have a strong commitment to the local community. I am a churchwarden of Allerton Church and am involved in several local community and charitable organisations. I am honoured and enthusiastic about my appointment as a Local Partner at Hugh Sexey and look forward to playing a full part in the life of the school.

I am lucky enough to have lived in this wonderful community all my life and very much enjoyed the time I spent at Hugh Sexey Middle School as a student myself. It is a great privilege to be back at the school in the role of a governor and as a parent. I am keen to take an active role in supporting the school in its effective running to achieve the best possible outcomes for its learners and the development for future generations. My professional background is around safeguarding so I will bring my knowledge and expertise in this area to support further the school in this capacity, ensuring pupils and staff have a happy and secure environment in which to develop.
