Où vas-tu? Saying where you are going (au / à la / aux)

Où vas-tu ce week-end?

Where are you going?

vas tu? Where are you going?

Je vais à... = I'm going to...

Remember this tiny word?

à = at/to

You use it to say where you are going, as well as where you are.

So...

Je vais à la plage = I'm going to the beach.

Je vais à l'école = I'm going to the school.

Remember what happens when à meets le?

...à + le turns into au (pronounced 'oh')

e.g. I'm going to the café = Je vais au café.

Something similar happens when à meets les...

...à + les turns into aux (also pronounced 'oh')

e.g. I'm going to the shops = Je vais aux magasins.
