Thursday

Thursday 7th May

1. Watch an animation of the poem

  • Watch The Highwayman PowerPoint (linked near the bottom of this page) or, if this is not possible, watch this video animation linked below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryu1JZiSbHo

  • Follow the words of the poem as you watch.

2. Make notes about the characters

  • Use the Character Notes (click on the word document near the bottom of this page) to make notes about three of the characters in the poem. Include information that you are sure about and things that you guess or imagine about them.

COOL CHILLIDraw a picture of one of the characters and label with the key vocabulary from the poem, for example the colour of Bess’s hair.

SPICY : Which of these three characters would you say is most tragic? Which has the worst situation? Give 3 reasons for your choice.

HOT: Which of these three characters would you say is most tragic? Which has the worst situation? Write a paragraph giving your reasons.  Use evidence from the text to back your ideas.

Extra task: Revise and practise adverbials

  • Use the PowerPoint on adverbs and adverbials.  If this is not possible, remind yourself using the Adverbials Revision Card (within the word document above).
  • Complete Adverbials Practice (within the word document above).

Well done. Tell a grown-up what you have said/written about the characters and then share your adverbial answers with them. You can check these with the answers at the end of the pack.
