Rooms of the house

L'OBJECTIF: TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE ROOMS OF THE HOUSE

TASK 1: REGARDEZ

Watch the video and repeat the names of the rooms!

Les Pièces de la Maison

Rooms of the house

TASK 2: ÉCOUTEZ et RÉPÉTEZ

Learn to say the rooms

LISTEN

 ...when you hear a CLAP

...REPEAT OUT LOUD  what you have heard!

(Don’t be put off by anyone listening, and do the clap too, if it helps!)

Le salon

The living room

La cuisine

The kitchen

La salle de bains

The bathroom

Le bureau

The study

La salle à manger

The dining room

La chambre

The bedroom

  • Listen and repeat these several times to develop your pronunciation.
  • Mimic the sounds as closely as your can, and look at the words as you say them.
  • Don't be afraid of sounding silly - by careful listening and repetition you are training your brain and developing your mouth muscle-memory!

TASK 3: TRADUISEZ

MA CHAMBRE = MY BEDROOM (like the English word 'chamber'!)

Whose bedrooms are these?

  1. La chambre de ma mère = my mother's room (it literally means 'the room of my mother')
  2. La chambre de mon père = my _______'_ room
  3. La chambre de mon frère = _________________
  4. La chambre de ma soeur = _________________
  5. La chambre de mes parents = _________________
  6. La chambre de Fred = _________________

TASK 4: TRADUISEZ

Go to the online dictionary https://www.wordreference.com/ and find the English for these rooms:

1) le grenier

2) la cave

3) le jardin

Look up any others you can think of, e.g. playroom, utility room... don’t forget to check if they are le (masculine) or la (feminine).

TASK 5: ÉCRIVEZ!

OPTION 1:

Make labels to stick on the doors in your home, saying the French name for each room.

Please ask your parents or carers first before you stick them up!

It is best to use blu-tack or similar - sticky tape can take off paint...

OPTION 2:

Draw a birds-eye plan of your own home (or an imaginary one!) and label all the rooms in French.

Use the word list below to make your labels.

Look up any others you need on https://www.wordreference.com/

No need to upload work this lesson, but if you would like to send me some photos of your signs or your plans I would love to see them!
