Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands in Collective Worship

Today pupils and staff were treated to a fantastic music concert to celebrate our termly value, Koinonia (Christian community and fellowship) and this week's virtue of sharing.  The sharing of music is very special and can be incredibly moving.  Today, pupils clapped and bopped along, clearly enjoying the experience.

Our KS3 Rock Band, led by Mr Lehunte, played two 'rockin' tracks, Another one bites the dust (Queen) and Holiday (Greenday).  Michael, Henry and Mr Lehunt played the guitars, Bella was on drums and vocals were sung by Bo, Sophie, Emma and Poppy.

As well as the KS3 Rock Band, we were so pleased to welcome Christine, Andrew, Rachel and Jo, of the Bristol String Quartet who came in to play for us.  They played popular songs on classical, orchestral instruments - two violins, a viola and a cello.  There was lots of clapping along to Dolly Parton's 9-to-5, and Mr Brightside was a firm favourite.

At Hugh Sexey, we appreciate special opportunities like this where pupils have a chance to see how their passions can be developed into rewarding and fulfilling careers.  Christine and her group were keen to answer questions about how they became professional musicians and gave advice freely to any young person who enjoys music and might wish to study it further.
