Career visit to Weston College Skilled Trades Centre

On Thursday 22nd February, 30 Year 8 pupils participated in an elective Careers Education visit to Weston College Skills Centre.  The purpose of the trip was to expose the pupils to possible Post 16 qualification pathways which may be of interest to them.  We were hosted by the automotive department where the lecturers led the pupils through a carousel of activities.  Pupils learned how to take a wheel off a car, disassemble, reassemble and check a  starter motor, remove and replace faulty indicator bulbs, change brake pads and dilute anti-freeze to the correct level for the local seasonal temperatures.  The afternoon session involved a tour of the extensive facility and a special talk from the apprenticeship lead about the range of apprenticeship qualifications (from entry level all the way through to degree level) that could be studied at the college.  A special thank you to Georgie and her team from the education outreach department at Weston College.  A great time was had by all.
