The girls in year eight are a delightful group of pupils to work with. The ten girls that were selected for the Mendip tournament on Thursday are committed and regular members of KS 3 Wednesday hockey club.
Despite the cold conditions the girls all gave impressive performances. There were five teams in the competition: HSMS, Fairlands , Wells Blue, Selwood and Oakfield.
The first match was one of the toughest . An early goal from skilful captain ,Charli B gave the team confidence . This was against Wells Blue. Winnie W was a difficult sweeper to pass and stopped most balls before they reached the goalkeeper Scarlett W . Final score 1-0 to HSMS .
Our second match was against Oakfield . The team gasped as the opposition scored but as it was hit from outside the goal D it did not count. Jess F was secure in the centre midfield slot. Natasha B worked hard at all times as she has done all season. The girls managed to score a goal as the match drew to a conclusion. Final score 1-0 to HSMS
The third match was an exciting one against Fairlands. Chloe N was superb in defence and the relentless work by Roxy W as she charged up and down the pitch , chasing every ball was impressive. The first goal was a text book hockey goal by Charli. Soon after another goal was scored. Jemima S showed her natural flair in this game. Final Score was 2-0 to HSMS
The final match was against Selwood School. By now, the girls were fully focused and scored three goals, Beau S and Sophie B , two of our most dedicated hockey players running up and down the wing . Great save from the keeper in this match. Final score 3-0 to HSMS .
Having won all the matches played the team won the overall competition. They will now progress with Wells Blue who came second to the Somerset school games in December.
A truly encouraging performance , played in cold conditions but with great team spirit.
Well done to all.
