Year 8 Boys Football v Crispin

Thursday 18th January

This was the Year 8 Football team’s first fixture of 2018 and they couldn’t have got off to a better start. New team captain Nathan Radford got the team warmed up well and they looked very focused and organised as the game started.

Within 2 minutes of the kick off the team were in full flow already. After great play from Ronnie Newton out wide, he delivered a perfect cross for Will Flavin who finished smartly at the front post. For the rest of the first half the game was evenly poised with few attempts on both goals. After the half time break Crispin came out determined to get back into the game. They were playing the better football at this point but the Hugh Sexey back four stayed strong. Special mention to Ethan Floyd and Fraser Bruce who didn’t let the Crispin strikers have an inch of space. Heading into the last 10 minutes the score was still 1-0. In a bid to close out the game Hugh Sexey added an extra midfielder and played a lone striker in George Moss. With five minutes remaining George Moss broke through on goal and calmly slotted the ball home to seal the game.

Overall, a very strong first performance of the year for the team. Congratulations to all the players and especially Sam Tucker who stepped in in goal and played brilliantly.
