    Pupils:  Year 5

    Event/Activity:  Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Pupils at Hugh Sexey have collected over 30 shoe boxes for the Link to Hope and Elderly Shoebox Appeal.

Boxes were filled with items for all family members such as shower gel, shampoo, family games, stationary items, sweets, soft toys, hats and scarves.

The boxes will be sent to Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine.  They will be given to families who often have to make the choice between buying food or fuel at Christmas time – buying presents is just not a priority.  Many families do not have running water, heating or electricity.  Some live in appalling conditions and life for them is a real struggle to survive.

Mrs Fuller, a parent, expressed her thanks that Hugh Sexey is playing a part in ensuring that these families know that they are not forgotten at Christmas time.

    Event/Activity: Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins was a great experience.  It was full of excitement, music and dancing.  This was one of the best school trips I have ever been on.

Firstly, the music and dancing were phenomenal.  When each song was over, a huge applause filled the theatre because the pitch and accompaniment were amazing.  Moreover, the dancing was excellent, they mainly did tap dancing but there were other styles too.

Another reason the show was the best was due to the fantastic costumes, they were colourful and detailed.  They made it easy to recognise the characters.

In conclusion, I would give the show five stars and given the chance, I would go again!

    Ross McGrath

    Leader of PE

    Starting in January 2016

I am very excited to start work at Hugh Sexey School. It is a School with an excellent reputation in sport and a School I was aware of whilst working in the South West of England. I can't wait to begin and contribute to the school and the thriving PE department.

I am now in my 10th year of teaching and I can't believe how quickly it has gone. My first job was at St Katherine’s School, a secondary school in North Somerset. I then took a head of PE post at Knowle DGE in Bristol and then moved abroad to work for Wellington College, an International School in Tianjin; China as Head of PE. Every job I have had has been different and I have learned something new along the way.

From a personal point of view I am interested and enjoy all sports and am looking forward to getting a few more years of rugby and judo out of my body before it is time to retire. I also enjoy wind surfing, skiing and surfing. Away from sport I am a keen musician and my wife and I enjoy travelling.

In the day I spent at Hugh Sexey I was struck by the enthusiasm and energy of the students and the close family community within the School. I am very proud to now be a part of that and I look forward to getting to know the students, staff and parents.

    Natalie Lattibeaudiere

    Teacher of Design & Technology

    Starting in January 2016

I completed a BA Honours degree in Fashion at Southampton Solent University in 2011. After my degree I completed a Post Graduate certificate in Education in Design and Technology.  I moved to Cambridge in 2012 to complete my NQT year where I specialised in teaching all D&T specialisms to Key Stage 3 and Textiles to Key Stage 4 and 5. I have spent the last 2 years teaching D&T to students in Key Stage 2 and 3 in schools across the southwest.

I am passionate about incorporating ICT into students learning within D&T because it enhances students’ enjoyment whilst preparing them for technological advances in the wider world.

Outside of school I have a passion for all things making and baking. I also enjoy swimming, theatre and visiting museums. Every summer I enjoy travelling with family and friends gaining an awareness and appreciation for many diverse cultures.

I am very excited about continuing my teaching career at Hugh Sexey Middle School and look forward to coordinating the new D&T curriculum!

    Alexandra Waring

    Teacher of Science

    Starting in January 2016

I studied Forensic Science at Staffordshire University because of my love for Science and being able to apply it in the real world.  However I missed the South West and so I came back to study my PGCE in Chemistry at the University of Bristol.  I spent my NQT year teaching at the Vale of Berkeley School in Gloucestershire where I taught Science at KS3 and 4 and Maths to KS3.  As I wanted to extend my abilities I moved to St Katherine’s in Pill where they had a sixth form and I taught Science to KS3-5 but also Maths and Health & Social Care.  Keen to challenge myself further I then moved to The King Alfred School where I took up the post of Assistant Head of Science.

I am passionate about making Science accessible to all and encouraging the younger students to become excited and enthused about the subject making sure they are well established before they move onto their next school.

In my career I have also volunteered as a First Responder and worked for a fire work company firing shows.  Both jobs I did around my teaching and I really enjoyed the challenge they brought.  I spend most of my free time with my two Dalmatians and enjoy the long walks they take me on.  I love reading and spending time with friends and family.

I am really looking forward to joining Hugh Sexey Middle School and being challenged in new ways.

    Event/Activity:  European Flags Homework

    Millie (Cake)

    Mary (3D map)

    Oliver (Fact file)

    Louis (Football stadium)

The pupils of 5CE were asked to research the flags of European countries and present their findings in a creative and interesting way.  While all children in the class produced an excellent piece of work, the four children above produced something outstanding that took time, patience and hard work.

    Pupils:  6IA Maths Group

    Event/Activity:  Junior Maths Challenge

On the 4th of November, we took part in a maths event at Wells cathedral School.  There were many schools from across the country, making up 32 groups.  We stayed in our groups throughout the 4 activities. We started off making symmetry posters per group, using coloured paper, pens and your brain.  After having some biscuits we went to do a maths relay race.  You had to split your group into pairs and took turns to run to the teacher to get the question, take it to the other pair so they could answer it.  After that we were led over to the canteen to get our lunch.  Then everyone got split into 3 groups, so that we could rotate around doing different activities.  Two groups would do the roadshow, games and puzzles.  The other group would go into a separate room and do maths activity questions to earn points along with your posters and the relay race to try and get a high score.  Hugh Sexey had 8 teams, two teams won a bronze medal, and one team won a silver medal.  The teachers and parents were really helpful and helped make the day a success.

I am an acrobatic gymnast.  I train at Monarchs in Highbridge.  I have been there for 2 years.

Acrobatic gymnastics involves two routines – balance and dynamic.  My partner is Alice K.  I compete between Grade 6 and Juniors.  I compete for my club in South West competitions and I have competed in Germany where I won a silver medal for my dynamic routine and gold for my balance routine.

I have competed Grade 1 in February last year and came 4th, Grade 5 in Germany last year and came 2nd.  In my two other competitions I came 3rd and 4th.  On the 24th November I have a competition in Bristol which I am excited about!
