  • 6MJ write for a real purpose

Thu 11 Jul 2019 Mrs Jarrett
As part of a writing for a real purpose project, 6MJ have written letters complaining about the amount of single-use plastics being used in the Y6 SATs process. They chose who they wanted to write to: Damien Hinds, Secretary of State for Education; Una Stubbs, CEO of STA; Prince Charles, as he is a avid supporter of the environment or James Heappey, our local MP.
They have so far received a reply from the the DfE and each pupil who wrote to HRH The Prince of Wales received an individual reply from his secretary, containing a photograph and showing that each letter had been read by him.  The children were very excited to receive personally addressed envelopes with the Prince of Wales crest on them and the letter on Clarence House headed paper.
Mrs Jarrett also received a letter as the class teacher.

  • Year 8 Sports Awards

Fri 05 Jul 2019 Mr McGrath

On Tuesday 2nd July an awards afternoon was held at Hugh Sexey in recognition of all the hard work the year 8s have put into sport whilst at School. It was lovely to see so many attend and all of the students should be very proud of what they have achieved in their time here. Trophies were presented to those who we felt had made a notable contribution throughout the four years but in truth we could have presented many more.

It has been a pleasure watching you participate and improve and we hope to hear of many more future successes.

  • Year 6 Sports Day

Wed 03 Jul 2019 Mr McGrath

The year 6 sports day was a great day of fun events and record breaking performance. The collaborative events proved to be very popular with the new addition of the obstacle race fitting in nicely beside capture the flag, start relay and the tug of the war. It was great to see all of the boys and girls so engaged and there were a number of stand out performances. The boys 1500m turned into a very interesting race with Lewis and Charlie neck and neck all the way until the finish. It was a record breaking performance in the girls race, with Emmie breaking Emily Derrick's record from 2005 with a time of 5.51. When Emmie set off at the start we did wonder if she would be able to hold onto the pace but she seemingly got quicker in the final lap. Emmie later set a record in the girls 400m with a time of 1 minute 20 seconds and Charlie set a time of 1 minute 18 seconds. It was the first time we ran that race in keystage 2 so it will be interesting to see how long those times last. Jess also had a great day on the track with a number of 1st place finishes. Grace should also be pleased with her performance as she was competitive in every race and got a mass of points for her house. Other stand out performances came from Archie, Sam, Harry, Isabelle, Autumn and Emilia to name a few.

All of the athletes involved should be very proud of how much dedication they showed in the events. In the end the Vikings emerged as the winners but it was the participation and support of all the athletes that made it a special day. Thanks also to the parents, staff and sport leaders for their huge contribution.

  • Year 7 Girls' Rounders Tournament

Wed 03 Jul 2019 Miss Crossland
On Tuesday the Year 7 girls attended a rounders tournament at St. Dunstan's school in Glastonbury. They played fantastically against 5 other schools from around the county. There were some very close scores and a draw in one match against Oakfield academy. Unfortunately we didnt get through to the finals but the girls should be proud of their efforts as they played some fantastic rounders! Well done girls!
