  • House Gymnastics Competition

Tue 18 Dec 2018 Mrsa Allen
    House Gymnastics. Friday 14th December.
The gymnastics club have been training hard for this competition throughout the term.
The girls had been given a short sequence of floor skills which included a cartwheel, backward roll and shoulder stand.
The girls arrived very punctually and warmed up. They were understandably nervous as for many this was their first experience of competitive gymnastics. A small cohort of pupils were competing with a different sequence as they are club gymnasts.
With the help of Miss Lacey , the gymnasts bravely performed their sequence on their own.
I was quite nervous for them!
Each pupil received 5 house points for taking part and there were medals for the winners.
I was very proud of every pupil  as they have worked very hard and their skills have greatly improved. Gemma' s backward roll has been a work in progress all term and today she performed with ease.

  • Yr 7 D.T. Christmas Fair raises nearly £600

Tue 18 Dec 2018 Miss Latti
Year 7 pupils raised £587.82 in the DT Christmas Fair! Pupils have chosen for the money to be donated to Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK is a cancer research and awareness charity. Its aim is to reduce the number of deaths from cancer. As the world's largest independent cancer research charity it conducts research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Research activities are carried out by scientists in institutes, universities and hospitals across the UK.

Christmas is a time for giving and this project has helped the pupils to understand about helping those that are facing difficult circumstances in their lives. I’m sure the money raised will help Cancer Research continue with their pioneering research into new ways of curing cancer.

  • Year 7 Hockey - Millfield School Somerset Games

Thu 13 Dec 2018 Mrs Allen

    Tuesday 11th December
    Millfield School Somerset Games

The team qualified for the Somerset hockey finals at Well Blue earlier this term; they had won the Mendip tournament.
Arriving early at school the team were excited and prepared for a high quality tournament .
Many teams from all over Somerset arrived with their teachers to play on the Astro at Millfield.
We were in Pool B which meant we played Danesfield, Sexeys Bruton and Haygrove. The first match v Danesfield was close but we scored a winning goal in the last few moments. The score 2-1 to Hugh Sexey. The second match versus Sexeys Bruton was a lovely, well played game. Both teams displayed fine skills and the final score was truly reflective of the nature of the game 0-0. Scarlett in goal was superb with interception kicks. The final Mach v Haygrove was close but a hard hit strike at the goal from Charli meant we won 2-1.
The team eagerly awaited the draw . On goal difference we made it to the third place final. This was against  Bishop Fox, Taunton  and it was very close. The final score was 2-1 to Hugh Sexey.
The team came third which is a fantastic achievement and they also remained undefeated in match play. Well done girls, and thank you to the families who supported.
Also a big thank you to all the Key stage three girls who attended Wednesday club. It has been a most successful and happy season.
    Team today:

  • Year 7 DT Christmas Fair raises record amount.

Thu 06 Dec 2018 Miss Latti
On 3rd and 4th December Year 7 pupils hosted the annual DT Christmas Fair as part of their Enterprise project.

Pupils worked in small teams to design and make a batch of Christmas products that could be sold to raise money for a charity of their choice.

Prior to making their products pupils were required to think carefully about the target client for their products and suitable materials/ingredients that would work well for their designs. All products were manufactured using a variety of materials/ ingredients.

During the project pupils delegated key job roles to each member of their team i.e. Project Manager, Production Manager, Creative Design Manager and Marketing and Finance Manager. These job roles enabled pupils to further develop their Personal Learning and Thinking Skills as well as their mathematical skills, understanding of batch production and quality control.

Year 7 pupils raised a whopping £587.82. This is the highest amount ever raised in the DT Christmas Fair! Pupils will decide which charity to donate the funds raised during assembly this week.

‘I am very proud of all the Year 7 pupils because they have produced a some amazing products that show excellent creativity. Pupils have put in a lot of hard work and shown great dedication in wanting to make this Christmas Fair a success'.
  • U13 Girls Rugby Festival at Yeovil.

Mon 03 Dec 2018 Mr Waterfield

There was an exciting opportunity for our rugby girls to partake in a schools festival at Yeovil RFC under the lights.

There were 5 schools who came along to this festival, and our girls played 4 games, (12 minutes one way)

1st game was against Holyrood - we knew this would be a tough game as Holyrood have a great rugby reputation.

Hugh Sexeys won the game comfortably 4 tries to 1. Great running rugby skills playing down the hill enabled us to run on to the ball with pace which allowed us to crash home the tries.

2nd Game was against King Arthurs . Sadly we lost Polly Fowler due to a back injury, but Hugh Sexey's won this game 7 tries to 0. Hugh Sexey's game plan was to support each other when we were on the attack, and keep the ball alive, this proved to work as when we were tackled we were able to pop the ball to an support runner to crash home. It was a VERY exciting game to watch.

3rd game against Westfield - Westfield had one or two very strong invasive players who clearly were very experienced and strong. The girls decided that in this game we needed to have quick line speed in defence, and tackle hard to stop them. It was very pleasing for me to see how they grouped as a team and came up with a plan themselves.  They were excellent, winning the game 4 tries to 2.

4th game against Gryphon - playing down hill the girls knew this was our last game and they wanted to finish with a bang, which they certainty did, playing superb rugby moving the ball from wing to wing and creating lovely space for our runners to attack. We won this game 4 tries to 1.

All the girls were just fantastic - it was great to see 100 girls turning up to play rugby, and I can honestly say that all the girls had great fun; to see them all smiling and enjoying the games was definitely worth the late travel home!

Thank you to Mr Jackson for driving the mini bus to Yeovil, and for giving up his time to take the girls - very kind of you.

Well done to all the girls - you are a credit to your school and your clubs.
