  • Cross Country Records Broken

Tue 31 Jan 2017 Mr McGrath
Many congratulations to Hannah, Louis and Grace for breaking long standing records in the cross country. Hannah, in year 7, ran the 3 kilometre distance in 13.07. Whilst Louis and Grace ran the same distance but broke year 8 records with times of 11.53 and 12.23 respectively. All of the students should be very proud of their accomplishments and it is a testament to the way they have applied themselves in this field.
  • Girls' Cricket

Tue 31 Jan 2017 Mr McGrath
Well done to the under 13s girls cricket team who took part in the Lady Taveners cup. The girls came 3rd, facing stern competition from Chilton Trinity and Haygrove school. The girls shouldn't be despondent however with all of the team coming from year 7 and many of the girls new to the game. With continued practice with coach Sophie Luff they will only get better and develop as players.
  • Alice is Nearly in Wonderland

Mon 30 Jan 2017 Miss Kendall

The year 8 cast and crew are hard at work putting the finishing touches to their production of Disney's "Alice in Wonderland", to take place next Wednesday and Thursday, at 7pm. Since September, the pupils have been designing and making the costumes and props in their DT lessons, which are now being finished off at lunchtimes by a team of helpers from across the school, while the digital club have been working on backdrops. With dancing lobsters, singing playing cards, a cooler-than-cool caterpillar and Cheshire Cats in triplicate, it promises to be a weird and wonderful show, which we hope pupils and parents will enjoy. Tickets for the evening performances are £4, and available via https://www.parentpay.com/.

  • Dance Experience

Thu 26 Jan 2017 Mrs Allen
Year three and four dance festival Tuesday 24th. January.
Mr. Waterfield invited our first schools to share a dance experience at school this week. Twelve of the year eight sports leaders had successfully planned a dance based on the year seven Olympic themed dance. They had not had too much practise but gave an enthusiastic and heartfelt  performance in front of year threes and fours.
They then went onto lead and inspire the younger pupils who were very creative and came up with their own choreography and ideas. Parents were then invited to watch the performances.
It was a happy and upbeat event enjoyed by all.
Well done to all the sports leaders and many thanks to Mr.  Waterfield for all his hard work with the year eight leaders.
  • American Museum Understanding Slavery workshops:

Wed 25 Jan 2017 Ms Taylor
Year 8 pupil had the fortunate opportunity to participate in 'Understanding Slavery' workshops as part of their History topic on Slavery thought time.  Their unit focuses on the issues and actions of the Transatlantic Slave trade and by working with Ellie, the Education officer from the American Museum in Britain, they were able to gain a great deal of insight into the 5 main themes of the Slave Trade; Traditional life in Africa, Trade and Commerce, Plantation Life, Resistance, and Abolition. Pupils handled and queried a very wide range of artefacts and primary documents, all of which helped them to improve their evidence interpretation skills.  The pupils now have a significantly improved understanding of and empathy for the plight of the enslaved people of the slave trade

Each tutor group then selected one pair or small group to perform their work to the whole year group on Wednesday.
Clive finished off by telling us more tales about the Mayans and some from his own books.

  • Textbooks for Kenya

Fri 20 Jan 2017 Ms Taylor

For a number of years now, Hugh Sexey has been growing its relationship the Jolaurabi School in Kenya.  As a charity school, they are entirely reliant on donations from sponsors and generous contributors to fund and resource the teaching and learning at the school.  Last summer term, teachers and subject leaders were encouraged to inventory their stock of text books and where it was foundthat we had outdated textbook or resources which were surplus to requirement now, we decided to donate these to our friends at Jolaurabi School.  They were delivered recently and as you can see from the photo, the children are most excited.  As well as sending Maths, English and Science books, as a Church of England School, it was a pleasure to be able to send a series of Christian Education texts and to share the word of God with faithful youngsters within the Global Christian Community.
