Thu 19 Jul 2018 Mr Albrow

In addition, the top 8200 pupils were invited to participate in the Junior Mathematical Olympiad or Kangaroo.

11 Gold,  16 Silver and 11 Bronze certificates.

Well done everyone - you are brilliant!

  • Cricket - the Ed Lamb Shield

Thu 19 Jul 2018 Mr McGrath
Many congratulations to the year 8 cricket team who managed to hold onto a 132 score in a 16 over cricket match against the year 7s. George and Sam were proud winners as they guided their team through a turbulent middle innings. The game has now become part of the Hugh Sexey summer fixtures, and the year 7s began to scare the 8s. Will O performed very well with batt and hit a number of boundary shots. Will C also gave a lesson on how to stay in bat for 16 overs, often taking on the role of supporting batsman; an usual position for Will but one he served manfully. Ultimately a Tom S catch prevented Oli from building on his impressive score alongside. An early dismissal for the potent batsman Alex also helped the 8s curb the year 7s score.
It was a fine game played in a good spirit. The game was played for the Ed Lamb shield - a trophy to celebrate  Mr Lamb, a member of staff who has done so much for PE at Hugh Sexey but now embarks on his first teaching post at Churchfield Primary.
  • Year 8 Mixed Doubles Final.

Thu 19 Jul 2018 Mr McGrath
Many congratulations to George and Maisy who emerged as Champions in the year 8 tennis finals. 32 mixed doubles pairs entered the event culminating in a first to 5 matches final. Aidan and Ella meet them in the final and contributed to a great event. They played with real spirit but couldn't finish off the close games. Maisy really stepped up her performance in the final and pulled off some excellent shots to put the game beyond doubt. George successfully combined a ruthless efficiency with a kind understanding that he has experienced a lot more competitive tennis than the other 3; a fine and commendable personality trait. Overall it was a lovely event and one that will now become part of the summer sports program.
  • HSMS Arts Festival

Thu 19 Jul 2018 Mrs Le Hunte
The finals of the HSMS Arts Festival took place on Tuesday, with 16 acts representing their Houses and year groups. We were enthralled by a range of acts from acrobatic gymnastics and elegant dancing to skilful musicianship and accomplished singing.
Of particular note were Millie Thomas, with a haunting rendition of ‘Wings’, Henry Bolger, with a great number from Hamilton and Anna Griffiths, who performed a delightful, self-choreographed dance.
  • Author of 'Street Child' writes to 6AF

Tue 17 Jul 2018 Mrs Fox
Having read and loved the book, " Street Child",  6AF decided to write to the author Berlie  Doherty to thank her for writing such a thought-provoking, exciting story. They also had many questions about the characters and they wanted to tell her about some of the work they had completed based on the book.
We were all very excited yesterday to receive a reply. She thought their questions were really interesting and explained that making up our own stories about the rest of a character's life can be just as rewarding as reading what the author thinks might have happened.
She is going to mention us in her next website newsletter, so we are all looking forward to reading that soon.

  • Year 8 Sports Awards

Tue 17 Jul 2018 Mr McGrath
Many congratulations to all of the winners at the year 8 sports awards. They really have been a vintage year group and they should all be so proud of their achievements. We would like to wish them well for the future and hope that they continue to engage in and enjoy sport and exercise.
  • Kings Academy Visit

Tue 17 Jul 2018 Mr McGrath
A select group of students from year 6 got a rare treat when the Kings Academy students visited and delivered a range of sporting sessions. The students at Kings, some of who are ex Hugh Sexey alumni, revelled in the opportunity to sharpen their coaching skills and it is hoped that this interaction between the Multi Academy Trust becomes a more frequent affair. The Hugh Sexey students were fantastic and very hard working. Many thanks to all teachers involved.
  • HSMS Races for Life

Mon 16 Jul 2018 Mrs Le Hunte
Dressed in pink mufti, pupils and staff ran side by side on Thursday last week for our whole school Race For Life. Many children had decided to raise extra money through sponsorship, with Emily Wainwright raising £92.50, Lucas Hughes raising £170 and Ellie-Marie Atwell raising an incredible £416.80.   After finishing the 5 kilometre course, children were able to buy ice lollies and cakes to increase our fundraising total.

So far, the school has raised an incredible £2786.72, with more sponsorship still to be counted. Thank you to all of you who have contributed in any way.
  • Vocal showcase

Fri 13 Jul 2018 Mrs Harrison

I was blown away this evening by the performances of our talented pupils taught by Elspeth Salmon. Well done to everyone involved.
  • Virtual Reality for Philippa, Innes and Megan.

Fri 13 Jul 2018 Miss Latti
On Monday 2nd July the 3 pupils who had been awarded certificates for their engineering designs (Philippa 7AMW, Innes 7IA and Megan 8RT) were given an extra reward with a visit to the Virtual Reality Suite at Airbus in Bristol. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed using the headsets and wearing the body suits to explore inside an Aircraft! I would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Higgins for organising the visit.
