  • Virtual Reality in KS2

Mon 09 Jul 2018 Mrs Edmonds
Virtual reality comes to KS2 - this is how year 5 spent Thursday: one hour per class looking at the solar system through virtual reality headsets.  The children were amazed by the incredible technology...and they got the chance to revise their knowledge of Earth, Space and the Solar System.
  • Swimming Galas ( years 5,6 and 8 )

Tue 03 Jul 2018 Mrs Allen

The sunny weather coincided with the swimming galas for year five on Monday 25th June and year six on Friday 29th June. Twenty of our year eights enjoyed their gala ,also on Friday.
The year fives experienced their first gala in good spirit. The good weather this term has meant swimming techniques have improved and it was good to observe this in a competitive yet fun event. Thank you to all parents and carers who came to support. There were some strong swimmers in each event ; the freestyle relay teams were fast and we saw some brave performances from our beginners , many of whom have only just begun their swimming journey. The Viking house won the event overall.
The year six gala took place on Friday afternoon. Thank you to Mr. McKinley and Mrs.Coggins for their hard work in making the pool look so beautifully clean .
All four houses were well represented and some of our club swimmers were keen to break long standing school records. Ben Carter displayed his very technically correct butterfly to break a new school record in the one length event. Finley Halford broke the record for the one length freestyle -  another joyful occasion. Some of our beginners who have been attending after school swimming classes ventured into the one length beginners event, and reflected how much they enjoyed the experience afterwards.
The Saxons were the overall winners in this event.
The year eight gala was a fun gala with twenty dedicated swimmers and a few parents spectating.  Even though the children entered with a good spirit there were still some talented swimmers who broke long standing records. Henry Reid swam in the one length backcrawl and broke the school record. Harriet Griffiths, Chloe Bott ,Hannah Carter and Poppy McGhee broke the freestyle relay record. They were entertained by Digby who enjoyed being master of ceremony on the microphone.
The overall winners were the Saxons.
Many thanks to our year eight leaders, particularly Millie for her calculations and Jack for his help with  setting up.
We are now looking forward to the Year 7 gala on Thursday 5th July.
