  • HSMS vs Fairlands - Yr 7 Rugby

Thu 29 Sep 2016 Mr Waterfield

Year 7  had their first rugby match away to Fairland's on Wednesday 28th September 2016.

Hugh Sexey's boys had really been looking forward to this fixture. We started the game as the stronger side, playing some good rugby and  scoring some early tries thanks to excellent teamwork.

As the first half progressed the boys played some great passing rugby and scored 3 more tries.

At half time we had a team talk and changes were made because we had some strong players on the bench waiting to come on and play. Hugh Sexey's continued to play well, playing some smart rugby which scored us more points on the board.

The game ended with Hugh Sexey's winning 35-0 which is a comfortable win; all credit to Fairlands' boys for not giving up.

Well Done boys - a great start to your rugby term.  I am a very happy Coach.

Squad: Jacob Ayres, Ethan Floyd, Tyler Downie, Sergio Wadey, Oscar Simms Preston, George Nuttycombe, Sam Tucker, Gabriel Baldeggar, Wilf Puddy, James Fowler, Nathan Radford, Stanley Snellgrove, Aidan Scoulding and Dylan Platt.

  • KS3 Cross Country Competition

Thu 22 Sep 2016 Mr Jackson

The first race of the Mendip Senior Cross Country League has taken place with 11 students from Years 7 and 8 representing Hugh Sexey.

A committed effort from all with several storming finishes and fortunately no need for anyone to do an Alistair Brownlee.

Our top performers were Hannah (3rd for Year 7 girls), Nathan (4th for Year 7 boys) and Grace (2nd for Year 8 girls) but a good team performance all round.

  • Match report: Boys' Under 12s Nationals Football

Wed 21 Sep 2016 Mr Waterfield

U12 Boys Nationals Football played their first round of the cup at home against The Park School Yeovil.

Right from the start Hugh Sexey's team was clearly  the stronger side and started to score goals straight away.  The quality of football and team effort were superb; we were playing like  Barcelona: keeping the ball moving and creating lots of passes before scoring a goal.

Goal Keeper Aidan Scoulding only touched the ball once in the first half.  Goals from George Moss, Ethan Floyd, Oscar Boorman and Jacob Aberdeen put Hugh Sexey comfortably in the lead at half time.

Changes were made at half time as we were able to move players around and give everyone in the squad a decent game.

In the second half Hugh Sexeys continued to pressure The Park School and we scored more goals. Thomas Bean, Ben Caldwell, and Henry Flanagan came off the bench and put in good performances throughout the second half.

The back trio of Ed Gillions, Will Creaser, and Ben Crook didn't put a foot wrong, and were solid when The Park School attacked.

The four midfielders - Sam Callow, George Moss, George Nuttycombe and Oscar Boorman - looked to be a real dream team in midfield, and provided great support for our goal machines, Jacob Aberdeen and Ethan Floyd, who were able to show their finishing skills.

A great start to the season. Thank you  to Park School for travelling to HSMS, and for continuing to play until the final whistle.

  • Year 7 Boys Cricket

Tue 20 Sep 2016 Mr McGrath
Well done to the year 7 boys cricket team who defeated Minehead middle school in the Wylie Shield cup final. All of the players performed well, with captain George Nuttycombe doing a fine job of leading the side. George lead by example and helped execute a solid team strategy. Lewis Richards bowled very strongly throughout and Oscar Sims Preston was most reliable as the wicket keeper. Tom Spinks again did his best Ian Botham impression and performed well with bat and ball. Fraser Bruce was lively in the open field along with Will Flavin, Isaac Nichols. All of the players performed with distinction and contributed to a deserved victory. Special praise must go to Sam Tucker who was in scintillating form with the ball and bat. He took a number of wickets with a variety of bowling strokes and hit an impressive 30 with the bat.
Well done to all involved and many thanks to Mr Albrow for his hard work with the team.
  • Swimming Success.

Tue 20 Sep 2016 Mr McGrath
Congratulations to Aaron, 6SB, who got silver medal at the South West regional swim meet at Milfield. Well done from all at Hugh Sexey and keep up the fine work.
  • Under 13s Nationals Girl's Football

Thu 15 Sep 2016 Mr Waterfield

On a lovely sunny afternoon Somervale travelled to Hugh Sexey to kick start the Round 1 for the Nationals.

From kick- off both schools got stuck in and played some fantastic football.  Izzy Cook displayed some great footwork and scored a brilliant solo goal  to settle the nerves.  Somervale hit back immediately and scored just before the half time whistle.

The score at half time was 1-1.

In the second half some changes were introduced and Hugh Sexey went back in the lead from a great finish by Grace White. Further goals from Izzy Cook (2), Grace Ashurst and Georgia Thurling secured the win.  Somervale's star player hit back with two late goals. The game ended 6-3.

This was a great start by our girls. Next round we are set to play at home against Hansham Woods Academy.

The Squad consists of – Evie Puddy, Grace White, Izzy Cook, Abbie Powell, Grace Ashurst, Georgia Thurling, Charlotte Watson, Alice Roy, Kaitlin Pettitt, Lucy Baker, Anna Littlewood-Hillsdon, Libby Tucker, and Evie Jones.
