  • Inter-area cross country race

Thu 26 May 2022 Mr Jackson

Congratulations to Bethany, Libby, Poppy and Noah who were selected for and represented Mendip in an inter-area cross country race in Yeovil.  Their selection was based on their fantastic performances throughout the Mendip Junior Schools Cross Country League.

It was a great opportunity to run against the best runners in their age group in Somerset.

All ran with enthusiasm and determination and no shortage of talent.

Mendip won the Y5&6 Girls category.  The Mendip boys would have also achieved a medal had their team not been missing a runner from another school who dropped out at the eleventh hour.

I am extremely proud of Poppy who showed amazing resilience and sportsmanship following a collision with another runner close to the finish line when an individual medal looked to have been in her sights.

  • First Schools Sports Festival.

Mon 23 May 2022 Mrs Allen

Year 3/4 multi skills festival May 18th

The year eights have been working hard to prepare for this festival. Their role was to offer a fun, skill-based activity to the younger pupils

The weather was kind as we welcomed pupils and staff from the feeder first schools : ( roughly 120 in total)

They experienced tug of war , parachute games, rugby tackling , football goal scoring, volleyball, and an array of obstacle courses. There was the opportunity to "welly wang" too.

On this occasion , it was more about having fun and meeting other pupils from other schools. There was no winner today.

Colleagues from the first schools were full of praise for the year eight sports leaders , "kind,"

"Inspiring, "enthusiastic" "and "you should feel so proud of your pupils " were amongst the comments I received.

It was so nice to be able to offer this event after the long absence due the Covid .

Thank you for all involved for their support .

  • The pool is back!

Mon 23 May 2022 Mrs Adair

First swimmer of the year in our wonderful pool. Adam in year 6

  • Matilda

Fri 20 May 2022 Miss Kendall

There was a buzz in the air and singing in the corridors this week as Year 8 finally performed their twice-postponed production of 'Matilda'. The cast and crew came together in a superb display of team-work and energy to put on a show full of fun, humour, storytelling and big characters. After performing the dress-rehearsal to the year 4 pupils from our first schools, they went on to do 4 full performances this week. The actors were supported by a team of pupils working backstage, in the dressing room, and on the lighting and sound desk, some of whom took on a big level of responsibility for particular jobs. We were really proud of everything they achieved, and hope they have made some great memories to take away with them for the future.

  • 'Chance to Compete' Girls' Cricket.

Tue 17 May 2022 Mr Jackson

"Chance to Compete" girls cricket competition

A team of eight girls took part in an U13 girls cricket tournament at Webdon against five other schools.

We played three matches.  For each match, every player bowled five balls and every batting pair faced 10 balls.

The first match was a narrow 54 : 53 win against The Gryphon School.  Daisy was our star player in this match; hitting three 4s as well as bowling a maiden over.  There was tidy bowling too from Grace and Emilia took a catch from Georgiana's bowling.

In the second match we lost 52 : 79 to the eventual winners Holyrood.  Emilia, Georgiana, Sofia and Olivia all hit 4s.  Just 2 runs were taken from Olivia's over and she took a wicket which was caught by Mara.

We then won the third/fourth place play off against Haygrove by 86 : 79.  Emilia, Georgiana, Sofia and Daisy all hit 4s.  We also took a couple of wickets; Mara taking a catch from Tilly's bowling and Olivia clean bowling one of the Haygrove batters.

A very enjoyable afternoon of cricket and a great experience too for our debutants Georgiana, Grace, Sofia and Tilly.

  • Multiskills for Year 5s.

Mon 16 May 2022 Mrs Allen

Yr 5 Multiskills - led by Yr 8 sports leaders.

The weather looked very ominous in the morning and I did wonder if I should postpone this event. Luckily, as you can see from the photographs the sun came out and our pupils had a very enjoyable afternoon of sports.

The year eight sports leaders have been preparing for the first schools multi skills festival ( taking place next Wednesday 18th) and this was an opportunity for them to practise their activities. There was a vast range of sports : tug of war, football, rugby tackling, parachute games, obstacle courses, volleyball and a Hugh Sexey favourite, the Welly Wang.

Speaking to the year fives after the event , it was clear they had had lots of fun.

Thank you to Miss Ralph and Mr. Kempsley for their support.
