  • 3 Cone Agility Challenge - school record breakers.

Mon 30 Nov 2020 Mr Waterfield
The PE department agreed that we would have an agility challenge for the pupils to compete for the school record, and the winning times would go with our bleep test and cross country records.

We held tutor group challenges in the PE lessons and the winning boy and girl from each tutor group in Years 7 and 8 then went through to the finals. Congratulations to those who got through to the finals, it was a closely contested event and the timings were so close!  There were some very quick times; it will be a good while before anyone can break these records.

The winners are now school record holders:
    Year 7 - Bonnie 7JB - 8.19 Secs and Michael 7KS - 8.11 Secs
    Year 8 - Sophia 8RM - 8.33 Secs and Will 8SK -  8.07 Secs
  • Leweston Virtual Cross Country Races

Mon 30 Nov 2020 Mr Jackson

We were delighted to be invited by Leweston School to take part in their virtual cross country races.

Leweston normally holds an annual cross country relay event on their grounds with schools throughout Somerset taking part.

They creatively offered a COVID safe alternative this year.  Each school set out a 2.4 kilometre course on their own premises to enable their runners to take part safely and remotely from other schools.  We had boys and girls teams for both Years 7 and 8.  Our Year 7 and Year 8 races took place on different days for bubbling purposes.

Whilst is currently too early to know how we fared against other competing schools, the winning runners from each team were:

    Year 7 boys - Oscar
    Year 7 girls - Freya
    Year 8 boys - Charlie
    Year 8 girls - Emmie

A fantastic effort from all our runners.  Oscar, Charlie and Lewis all clocked in with times close to 10:00 minutes.

Above all, it was wonderful to be taking part in a competitive sporting event again.

Thank you also to the helpers from 7RA for the Year 7 races and from 8DJ for the Year 8 races.
  • Oscar swims 5 kilometers

Tue 17 Nov 2020 Mr Waterfield
Well done to Oscar (7EF) who recently swam 5000m in 1hour 48 minutes. He swam 200 lengths of a 25m pool.
    A fantastic achievement.
  • Showjumping for HSMS: National Schools Equestrian Association Round Up

Thu 05 Nov 2020 Mrs Quick
Lulu 5JC, Ferris 6AF and Hattie 6FL, attended a Show Jumping qualifier a couple of weekends ago at Moreton Equestrian in Dorset.

Lulu was 4th in her 40cm class, Ferris won his 60cm class and Hattie won her 70cm class - We can literally say Hugh Sexeys Middle School wiped the board against all of the private schools. It was a massive achievement and worth the long journey there in the rain.

The three of them will now qualify for the regional final in January back at Moreton Equestrian.

During lockdown some of the members will be doing online dressage competitions through the NSEA, which will prove to be great fun.
