  • Year 5 Football - HSMS vs Fairlands

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Mr Banwell

On the 27th of March, Fairlands travelled to Hugh Sexeys for two Year 5 games; this was their last game as Year 5s, therefore it was important to put on a good display to carry them on to Year 6. Team 1 consisted of players like Albert, George and Alfie whereas team 2 had William, Josh and Henry. Both teams were well prepared as the whistle blew to begin the games.

Over on team 1 Louis (Goalkeeper) made some great saves to keep his team in the game. The midfield was held by Daniel who did a superb job. Unfortunately the team was 1-0 down at half time, after an end-to-end game. There was everything to play for in the second half.

Team 2 however were leading 1-0 after William scored a goal which he slotted in to the bottom right corner, following a swift counter attack from Marley, Harriet and William. Noah the goalkeeper kept his team alive with a breath-taking save in the last minute of the first half.

At the end of the games Team 1 had lost 2-0. Team 2 managed to hold off the pressure and won 1-0.

Overall they were 2 brilliant games of football; a shout out to all four teams who kept going until the final whistle.

Thank you to Fairlands for allowing us to put on these great fixtures.

  • Year 7 Football - HSMS vs Millfield

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Mr Banwell

On the 29th of March, Millfield travelled to Hugh Sexeys to take part in a year 7 fixture. This was going to be the last football fixture of the year. Luckily, we were able to play 2 games which meant we had 2 teams raring to go. Team 1 consisted of players such as Harry, Jude and Patrick; Team 2 was equally skilled with players such as Xavier, Jack and Noah.

Half time in both games and the 2 Hugh Sexey's teams were leading at the break. Both first halves were fantastic - team 1 was 2-0 down and managed to pull it back to 2-2 by the break. Goals came from Harry and Jude.

Team 2 led their game 3-0 after a dominant display from Hugh Sexeys, with the goals coming from Noah, Noah and Jack. There was some lovely football played across the team, including Frankie (Goalkeeper) who made some crucial saves to keep a clean sheet.

Full time in both games and team 1 completed the comeback and ending up winning 3-2 with the winning goal coming from Patrick which was coolly taken. A great reaction from the boys especially after being 2-0 down.

Team 2 also won their game with a 3-1 win. Although a late goal was conceded Henry and Alfie held the defence superbly.

A massive thank you to Millfield for travelling here and enabling these games to happen.

  • Year 8 Netball Tournament

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Mrs Allen

A very wet tournament played in good spirits .

We entered two teams - one in the A competition and one in the B

The A team are to be congratulated for their commitment to lunch clubs . A special thank you from me to Iris, Tilly C and Grace B who have trained the KS2 girls in netball which has also helped their game improve.

There were five other schools playing in the A competition. Selwood, Oakfield, Wells Blue, St Dunstans and Fairlands .

Our girls played very well together , both tenacious and relentless in gaining possession of the ball. The games were all very close .

Oakfield school won , Wells Blue second and Hugh Sexey third.

Players of the matches - Artemis , Grace and Iris .

Also well done to Gracie ( captain) Leila , Tilly C , Sophia .

The B team consisted of many pupils who were new to competitive school sport . Special mention to Evie who has been very committed to netball and was a great captain . The team enjoyed their longer matches and ended up in third place.

Team player of the match Lily S ,

    Team Hattie, Amelia W , Milly W, Meg , Emilia , Katie.

Well done to the netball squad . Despite the rather wet conditions , all played with positivity and purpose .

  • Celts on top.

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Mr McGrath

Congratulations to the Celts, who currently sit top of the table after the house football and netball on 430 points. Scores are very close with Vikings on 420, Normans on 400 and Saxons 390.

  • New School Cross country Records

Wed 29 Mar 2023 Mr McGrath

Well done to Grace of Celts in year 8 and Louis of Saxons in year 6. Both have broken School records during the cross country run this week. Grace with a time of 8.48 on the KS3 course, an impressive 49 seconds quicker than her previous personal best. Louis with a time of 6.34 on the KS2 course. Both pupils have overcome injuries this year and it is so pleasing to see them perform so well. They both consistently attended school practices in a range of sports and always apply themselves fully. There success is a result of consistent hard work.

    Well done

    Mr McGrath

  • First School Netball Festival

Thu 23 Mar 2023 Mrs Allen

A rather wet festival unfortunately . This didn't dampen spirits and it was encouraging to see a good level of netball from first school pupils.

The sports leaders were helpful with coaching and umpiring and despite the rather grim weather , I felt there was a very positive and encouraging festival atmosphere. Thanks to staff, parents and carers for their support too.

  • Final Race in Mendip Junior Schools Cross Country League

Wed 22 Mar 2023 Mr Jackson

Cross country race at Millfield Prep School

Millfield Prep School hosted the fifth and final race of the Mendip Junior Schools Cross Country League 2022/23.

Our Year 5&6 runners gave their all again in the longest race of the season at a distance of 2,300 metres.

It is worth namechecking every one of the 13 runners in this race because each participated in multiple races this season and did themselves and Hugh Sexey proud.  Well done to Harriet, George, Henry, Joe, Stanley and William from Year 5 and Bella, Bethany, Charlie, Coby, Euan, Louis and Theo from Year 6.

We came into the race hoping our Boys team might achieve a top three award (out of over 25 schools) for the season and they sure did.  However, their medals are literally in the post.
