  • ESFA Cup -Under 13 Boys Football

Thu 28 Sep 2017 Mr Waterfield

Hugh Sexey were drawn against Clevedon School AWAY for the first round of the ESFA Cup Match.  We arrived at Clevedon with the boys wearing a brand new very smart kit (see photo below).

Hugh Sexey's started the match very brightly and hit the post in the first few minutes.  Suddenly Clevedon then came back  and scored two goals out of nowhere. George Nuttycombe then scored a well taken goal for Hugh Sexey's; we kept the pressure on to score an equaliser, but just simply couldn't find the net. Clevedon won the game 2-1.

Special mention to Harvey Pearn for a great debut in the Nationals, playing as centre back.  All the boys were fabulous and played some really smart football.  Well done lads, keep up the good work in training and keep enjoying your school football.

Squad - Aidan Scoulding, Harvey Pearn, Ethan Floyd, Ben Crook, Tom Bean, Jacob Aberdeen, Nathan Radford, Ronnie Newton, Henry Flanagan, Ewan Duckett, Amar Kolattu, George Nuttycombe, Oscar Boorman, Sam Tucker, Will Creaser

  • Mendip Senior Cross Country League.

Thu 21 Sep 2017 Mr Jackson

It was the first of the three races that make up this cross country league for Years 7 and 8.

Amongst the strong performances from all our runners, we had a couple of podium finishes to celebrate.  Henry, on his debut, finished first in the Year 8 Boys race and Hannah finished second in the Year 8 Girls race.

Our Year 8s had the advantaged that all of the Year 8 runners from the host team of Millfield were away in Cardiff and so the challenge will be greater next week on the hilly course.

  • Chatting 100 Memorial Bike Ride

Fri 15 Sep 2017 Mrs Hay

Congratulations and well done to 4 HSMS pupils who rode in the Chatting 100 - a 100 km charity cycle ride on the Isle of Wight. The event was organised by the Chatting family as a memorial sportive for Ian Chatting who passed away last year.
The pupils who took part in the ride included Lewis and Libby Chatting, Hattie 5CE, Jake 6MJ, and Maisy 8RH. It is a truly remarkable achievement and great cause to support.
  • U11 Cricket Wylie Shield final.

Fri 15 Sep 2017 Mr Waterfield

The boys were due to play this final, against Minehead Middle School, last term, but due to the bad weather it was postponed. We managed to agree to the final match being played on Wednesday, 13th September.

Unfortunately the weather was poor again- wet and windy.  It was decided that the game should be played indoors instead.

Hugh Sexey's boys were a little disappointed as they were looking forward to playing hardball outside.  However all credit to them, they kept their spirits up and chose to field first. From that moment onwards they bowled superbly, hitting over 15 wickets!  Minehead didn't know what had hit them; everyone was on superb form both in bowling and batting.

It was a really enjoyable afternoon of cricket, and it was a pleasure to umpire the boys from both schools.

    Well done lads

    Mr Waterfield

  • Megan has Poem Published

    Fri 15 Sep 2017 Miss D'Auria

Megan, in 7RT, has had a poem called 'Short Or Tall (Or How The Giraffe Got Its Long Neck)' published in an anthology of children's poetry called Busta Rhyme: Hidden Treasures.  Young Writers launch writing and poetry competitions every year and Megan was successful enough for her poem to be selected for publication in the most recent anthology.  A copy is available for borrowing in the school Library.
  • Innes dances at Sadlers Wells, London.

Tue 05 Sep 2017 Mrs Oliver
Innes, 7IA, spent the first week of the summer holidays at Summer school at Bristol Ballet Centre in Westbury on Trym, culminating in a performance inspired by 'The Lion King' in Newman Hall. Then on 14 August she went to the prestigious Elmhurst Ballet School for 10 days, in preparation for performing with the National Youth Ballet (NYB). Auditions for NYB were held in Birmingham and London in the Spring, and Innes was one of the lucky dancers to be offered a place in the cast.

Innes boarded at the school, where 105 students aged 8-18 undertook daily classical ballet classes and rehearsals with leading choreographers, teachers and directors. With her partner Roisin from Bristol, Innes performed a self-choreographed 2 minute duet in front of Sir David Bintley, Director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, as part of an initiative by NYB to encourage young choreographers.

Following their intensive preparation, Innes and her fellow cast members stayed on in Birmingham for dress rehearsals and 4 performances at the Crescent Theatre. After a much-needed week off, the cast met up at Sadlers Wells, London, on Sunday 03 September for a Gala performance. It was truly amazing to see a young dancer from Somerset on such a famous stage. All the cast performed with enormous passion, commitment and professionalism and it was easy to forget at they were so young. We are so proud of her hard work and achievements this summer, and that she has had so much fun making new friends and doing something she loves to such a high level.
