  • Somerset Inter-Area Cross Country

Mon 30 Apr 2018 Mr Jackson

Congratulations to Chloe, Katie, Finley and Nathan (all Year 6) and Charlie (Year 5) who were all selected to represent Mendip in an inter-area cross country match in Yeovil.

Featuring the best runners in Somerset at that age group, our runners did themselves proud and Mendip defended their position as champions by winning in every category again.

Finley got an individual medal too for achieving second place in his race.

  • Hugh Sexey's Girl's Under 11's Football Team

Wed 25 Apr 2018 Mr Waterfield
Congratulations to the Hugh Sexey's Girl's Under 11's Football Team on securing a place in the National Cup Finals.

On Saturday 21st April they played in the South West Regional Football Finals at Keynsham, representing Somerset. Out of 10 Counties, we came second which is a greatachievement and a testament to the girls hard work and application.
In ever changing conditions the girls battled hard to secure two 0 - 0 draws in the first games. Edie P was a pillar of strength in goal, whilst Cery's W was bravery personified throughout. In challenging circumstances the girls secured their first victory against Hampshire. They claimed a late penalty to win the game 1 - 0. Maddie D was in fine form and alongside Katie R and Olivia F they formed a formidable attacking duo.
After 4 matches and earning 6 points, they got through to the Semi Finals where they meet Dorset. This was a nail biting game, with both teams having frequent scoring opportunities. After extra time it went to penalties and Aida R scored the winning penalty. Goal keeper Edie P was in fine form saving all the penalties. In the final we were narrowly beaten by the Gloucestershire team 1-0. It was another close game with Gloucestershire just having a little more composure when it mattered most.

By reaching the final Hugh Sexey's (Somerset) will be joining The Park Primary School (Gloucestershire) at either Sheffield Wednesday FC (Hillsborough) or Coventry FC (Ricoh Stadium) for the Nationals Finals on 19th May. They should be very proud of their achievement and I am sure they are tremendously excited about this unique opportunity.

  • First Schools' Dance Festival

Fri 20 Apr 2018 Mr McGrath
Thanks to the first schools for attending the dance festival at Hugh Sexey. The enthusiastic and able year 8 sports leaders did a superb job of guiding the year 4 and 5 dancers, and this culminated in 6 wonderful dance pieces at the end. It was a delight to see so many happy faces enjoying the creative art of dance, and lovely to see so many happy parents, grandparents and teachers supporting. The year 8 sport leaders were simply inspirational and a credit to themselves and the hard work Mr Waterfield has invested into them.

  • Year 7 netball.

Fri 13 Apr 2018 Mrs Allen

It has been a very active week for our year seven netball team.
The Mendip tournament had been postponed due to the snow.
The re- scheduled tournament took place at Oakfield School in Frome on Tuesday 10th April. The top two teams making it through to the Somerset Spring games at Millfield on Thursday 12th. Our girls played well, despite two weeks holiday playing teams from Fairlands, WellsBlue, Selwood , Oakfield and St. Dunstans. We finished in second place losing to a strong team from Fairlands.
This meant the team travelled to Millfield and experienced a very high standard of netball ( inspired by England's recent performance in the Commonwealth Games ) There was  some promising  moments of play - strong  defending by Mary and Esther. The team finished in 7th place losing to teams from Sexeys,Castle School and Courtfield School.
A great opportunity for the girls to experience quality netball and umpiring.
    Well done .
