  • Year 7 Girls' Hockey vs Wells Blue

Wed 19 Oct 2022 Mrs Allen

It was a first for many of our year seven girls .

The sun was shining and the MUGA looked great.

Wells arrived promptly which meant there was a lot of time to play. After the warm up, the teams took their positions and play got underway.

    A team

This was a close match with every player giving their best. Keeley did a fantastic job as captain and GK.

Grace W scored the first goal of the match and Wells soon retaliated with their first goal. Half time score 1-1

The second half saw Wells score a goal and they went on to win 2-1

    B team

After a lively first half the year sevens from High Sexey we're winning 8-2 . I took on the umpiring in the second half and was impressed with the level of play . There was some great support from the midfield players , Poppy and Lulu and controlled attack from Summer and Eliza . The final score was 10-2 to Hugh Sexey

Player of the match A-team was Grace W

Players of the match B team were Summer  and Eliza.

It was very nice to welcome support from families and tutors:

    Well done .

Match report vs Millfield prep football 12th October

On the 12th of October, Hugh Sexeys travelled to Millfield to play two fixtures; we took two teams.  As the games kicked off, both the Hugh Sexey’s teams had great starts with Xavier scoring in one game and Jude scoring in the other. Half time came and both of our teams were winning at the break: 2-1 in one game and 3-1 in the other. So far both teams had played some beautiful football at times and thoroughly deserve their lead.

The second half began and immediately Finley in the B team scored another goal, which was the best of the day. It was a brilliant team goal with a great finish. At full time both teams had won their games - the A team winning 7-1 and the B winning 5-3. Amazing displays from both teams and thanks to Millfield for hosting us.

Match report vs Millfield Prep 4th of October

On the 4th of October Hugh Sexey travelled to Millfield prep for an Under 13s game of boys football. The Game kicked off and it was a rocky start, with Hugh Sexeys conceding from a corner early on. 1-0 down at half time there was still hope for the players and a sense of optimism was brewing as the players hydrated, re-taped their socks and laced their boots . Xavier was the standout player in the first half. He was calm in possession and purposeful in attack.

The second half kicked off and unfortunately the game drifted away from Hugh Sexeys, with Millfield winning 3-0. There were lots of positives to take from the game, as the match could have gone in any direction. A huge well done to Xavier, Noah and Zak who came from year 7 to play up an age group and certainly did not look out of place.

  • First Schools' Tag Rugby Festival at HSMS

Mon 17 Oct 2022 Mrs Allen

Tag Rugby Festival October 11th 2022

This was the first festival of the year and we were lucky as the sun shone and the temperature perfect.

Four of the first schools attended the event: Axbridge, Mark, Weare and Wedmore. Each school was encouraged to bring ten players and each match lasted twelve minutes.

It was the first time that our new cohort of sport leaders had the chance to lead and inspire. Some of the leaders that play rugby were able to practice their refereeing skills. Others shouted encouragement at their teams and led warm ups and cool downs. The admin leaders also did a great job and collated all the results.

The standard of play was high and there was a fun but competitive atmosphere. It was nice for parents, carers and teachers to watch and to chat to some old Hugh Sexeys’ pupils.

    The final score was

    4th Place Axbridge

    3rd Place Wedmore

    2nd Place Mark

    1st Place Weare

The next festival will be at Wedmore Pitches and is the girls’ football

  • Year 7 Rugby vs Gryphon School

Mon 17 Oct 2022 Mr Banwell

Match Report vs Gryphon School 6th October Rugby

On the 6th of October Hugh Sexeys year 7 Rugby team travelled to Gryphon School in Dorset for a highly anticipated rugby fixture. Getting a full year 7 rugby team together at the start of the School term looked an ambitious target. It is a credit to the captaincy of Ben and the gentle encouragement of a number of the club players that after 3 weeks of training a side was prepared and ready.

After a disappointing first half Hugh Sexeys found themselves 4 tries down. Sexeys had to play more as a team and use the width of the pitch.

The second half began and it was clear the players were determined to put on a better performance. They kept the ball more and were confident in working the ball through the phases and up the pitch. It was simple but effective. Alex was in red hot form and scored 4 tries to help Sexeys win the second half. Super-sub Jamie came on and really kickstarted that second half with his energy, enthusiasm and searing pace.

In the end Gryphon just snatched the victory by one try. However, there were 2 winners on this day;Gryphon School and the sport of Rugby. Well done to both schools who put on a great match to watch!

Training for the year 7 and boys and girls is Friday after School. This will run until the Christmas Holidays.

  • Mendip Junior School Cross Country League - Race 1

Mon 10 Oct 2022 Mr Jackson

    Year 5&6 cross country - Race 1

Nine runners represented Hugh Sexey in the first race of the Mendip Junior Schools Cross Country League 2022/23.  It was held at Millfield Prep School on a pleasantly mild day and included two circuits of their woodland and orchard.

A fantastic effort all round from our runners.  Bethany was our highest placed finishing in 8th.  Five of our boys (Henry, Charlie, Euan, William and Stanley) finished between 18th and 32nd exhibiting a strength in depth relative to the 111 runners who took part in the Years 5&6 boys race.

If you are a parent of a child in Year 5 or 6 who would like to take part in the remaining four races of the season, please encourage your child to come to cross country club on Friday lunchtimes.  Just two of our nine runners were girls and so we are particularly looking to include more girls in the team.
