  • Year 6 Hockey team v Fairlands

Thu 30 Nov 2017 Mrs Allen
    22.11..2017
The girls gave a great performance in this dimly lit match. Captained by Natasha, the team looked promising from the start. It ended up being a 9 a side game and played on a full pitch. Great performances from all the team - Charlie showed her strength as a striker and Winny a strong defender.
The final score was 2-0 to Hugh Sexey. Well done. Credit goes to all the team as they have been very committed to lunch time club.
  • Yr 6 Girls' Hockey - House Matches

Thu 30 Nov 2017 Mrs Allen
    Year 6 House Winners.
    Normans.
A great atmosphere prevailed in this last round of house hockey. The year sixes are a large group and despite the large numbers and very muddy pitches the girls enjoyed a closely fought battle. This year group were particularly good at cheerleading and well done go the the Celts for their banners ( see photo)
Thank you to Mrs. Callow and Mrs. Trinnick for organising and to Eleni and Maise our two year eight umpires.
Final score Normans won. Saxons second and Celts and Vikings third.

  • Year 7 Boys' Rugby - House Matches

Tue 28 Nov 2017 Mr McGrath

The year 7 boys inter house competition was always going to be a close encounter. With so many of the boys playing rugby, it was pleasing to see a proportionate spread throughout the houses. With a number of skilful and experienced players also opting to take part in the tag competition the standard throughout was very high and enjoyable to watch. The Celts had a well balanced side with Kenny Poole and Tom Drummond offering hard direct running and good handling skills, this allowed the outside backs like Jacob Aberdeen and Tom Bean ample to space to run at. The Celts got off to a flying start against the Normans who battled bravely throughout but perhaps were missing the number of options that the other houses had at their disposal. The players certainly did their best with Oliver Evans and Charlie Rant always offering themselves as ball carries in heavy traffic. Ben Turrell and Oliver Richards helped guide the backs but when Joel Tudor suffered an injury the Normans lost a potent attacking weapon. The surprise package for the Normans was Robert Smith who played with a real intensity throughout and was really prepared to get involved from the off. Another team that got off to a good start were the Saxons. The team had attacking quality running through it with Sam Callow, Ben Crook, George Harris and Luc Griffiths all showing their skills. Stephen Tancock also performed strongly for the Saxons in the tag competition and he has picked up the game very quickly. The Vikings were crowned the eventual winners and this was as much to do with their tag side as it was the boys who played in the contact group. With Will Creaser in the team it was inevitable that the side would be organised and difficult to beat. The Vikings had some strong and solid players in the team who were more than happy to do the dirty jobs like clearing rucks and carrying into traffic. This was typified by Toby Marshall who has been on top of his game all term. Alex Scott also looked very dangerous every time he had possession. However, the Vikings could not have done it were it not for the excellent performance of the tag group. This was typified by Jack State who worked so hard to motivate the players. He did a superb job of this and got some excellent performances out of the players. Roman Eames was one player who really stepped up and he enjoyed the competition immensely.

Well done to all of the Houses involved.

  • Year 6 Boys' House Rugby Matches

Tue 28 Nov 2017 Mr McGrath

The year 6 boys House rugby competition was a tale of two competitions. The powerful Saxon's won every game in the contact group. The team had a number of school rugby players including Oliver and George Spinks and Max Scantlebury. With this in mind it is little wonder that they posed so many attacking threats to the opposition and it is a credit to the other Houses that they managed to prevent them from scoring when they had possession. For the Normans there were some stand out performances with Kieron Clarke and Ellis Thorne showing good skill and footwork. The Celts pushed the Saxons all the way with Jack Wall tackling everything and showing good awareness as an attacker. One of the stand out players of the competition was Hugo Andrew of the Vikings. He was on top of his game in every match and has improved immensely this year.

The tag group also displayed the improvements the boys have made this year. The Vikings won all of their games thanks to some slick finishing by Ryan Roach and Zak Burfield and intelligent inter play by Oscar Ham. In the end the Vikings had the highest total of points to secure victory. All of the boys should be very proud of their efforts.

  • Year 8 Boys' Rugby Vs Oakfield

Tue 28 Nov 2017 Mr Waterfield

Year 7s and 8s welcomed Oakfield to Hugh Sexey's on Wednesday 22nd November.

Hugh Sexey's Year 8 rugby team have been working very hard in training, and in their games lessons, on ball presentation as well as working extra hard on the floor to keep the ball safe.

The boys were told to put what they had learnt into practice in the match.

All the boys were fantastic - they were everywhere on the pitch and played superbly as a team. They were particularly outstanding in the rucks and the scrum. It was great to see good numbers of boys wanting to play for the school team, and enjoying their rugby with a smile.

Hugh Sexey's won the game very comfortably in the correct spirit of sportsmanship, discipline, and enjoyment.

Well done lads - an excellent performance, keep up the good work.

Credit must also go to Oakfield for keeping going and not giving up.

  • First Schools' Football Festival

Mon 27 Nov 2017 Mr Waterfield

    Thursday 23rd November

All six primary schools: Wedmore, East Brent, Axbridge, Mark, Weare, and Lympsham came to Hugh Sexey's for the annual football tournament. It was a very cold, wet, and dark night.

All six schools produced some great football skills on the day, it was a real pleasure to watch these youngsters playing, and to think they will be representing Hugh Sexey's in the future. Congratulations go to Wedmore for winning the cup.

The sports Leaders:Nathan Radford, George Moss, Sam Tucker, Eleni Krassos, Maisy Mitchell, Jack Boston, Ella Hodgson, Harriet Griffiths, Millie Thomas, Tyler Downie, and

Sergio Wadey were all superb, and kept the festival flowing nicely considering they didn't have time on their side as it got dark quickly. Well done guys, you were superb.

  • Year seven house hockey matches

Fri 24 Nov 2017 Mrs Allen

It was the best day of the week for hockey, with blue skies and a fresh wind.
The year seven girls turned up to school with their sticks and gum shields, determined to win the prestigious house cup for their house.
The girls organised themselves well into two teams, and each match lasted ten minutes. Two of our year 8 girls were umpiring and the matches were played in good spirit.
The cheerleading was exceptional (the Vikings were led by Scarlet ) and encouraged their teammates well.
    The final score was
    4th  place  Celts
    3rd place Normans
    2nd place Saxons
    1st place Vikings

    Well done to everyone.

  • WW1 Battlefield Tour Legacy Project

Thu 23 Nov 2017 Ms Taylor

On Monday two former pupils, Anna Littlewood-Hillsdon and Alex Cramp, returned to HSMS for the launch of their World War One Battlefield Tour Legacy Project.  Following the pair's visit to the Western Front in November, 2016, they embarked on creating a lasting, informative memory of their experience.  Pupils can now engage personally with Alex and Anna Battlefield tour, through exploring an interactive 'choose your own adventure' exhibition in the library.  Pupils are encouraged to come to the library during their breaks and lunch times and take some time to explore the Western Front Battlefields on their own.

Alex, Anna and I hope you all enjoy your visit, and moreover, find it informative and moving.
