  • Year 5 Football vs Millfield

Fri 30 Sep 2022 Mr McGrath

The year 5 football players put in a strong showing against 2 sides from Millfield. It was a great come back in one game with Hugh Sexey rescuing a draw after going 4-0 down. George started the comeback with a neatly taken penalty to take the score to 4-1 and then Henry, Alfie and William added extra goals to set up an exciting finish. On the other pitch it finished 4-2 to Millfield. The game provided an excellent opportunity for all our year 5 boys and girls to play against a well organised team.

Thanks to Millfield for the game.

  • KS3 Cross Country at Millfield

Thu 29 Sep 2022 Mr McGrath

Well done to the ever growing Hugh Sexey cross country team who put in a very strong performance in the Mendip races at Millfield Prep. Grace lead the way and finished 3rd amongst the girl runners. The standard was incredibly high. Vin, Will, Leo and Ben all ran well for the year 8 boys. The year 7 team were a credit to the School. Poppy ran an excellent race in the girls field and Bo was a shinning example of energy and enthusiasm.

Thanks to Millfield and well done to all of those involved.

  • Rugby at Wells Cathedral School

Thu 22 Sep 2022 Mr Banwell

On the 21st of September, Hugh Sexeys travelled  to Wells Cathedral school to play  two Trainings/games with our Year 7s and Year 8s. This was the first fixture for both years therefore those who haven’t discovered Rugby training yet did not take part.

On the year 8 pitch the Hugh Sexey boys were doing very well with Evan leading with the most tries and earning victory for the team. Over on the year 7 pitch Wells Cathedral beat Hugh Sexeys 8 tries to 3 although the game was cut short due to an injury from the opposition. Despite the score line Hugh Sexeys year 7s put on a very good display and showed heart and passion all the way to the end, with players such as Alex and Ben shining in the team. Real determination was showed by the year 8 boys as they showed what great players they are. A massive credit to all the teams involved - they put on a great display and were exciting to watch.

Wed 21 Sep 2022 Mr Jackson

    More cross country at Millfield

Millfield hosted the second of three cross country races for Year 7&8 runners.  Runners from Hugh Sexey, Millfield and The Sir John Colfox Academy took part.

This week's course was really challenging; set on the idyllic but tough lower slopes of Glastonbury Tor and also longer than most had ever run previously.

Our first runners in each of the categories were Grace (Year 8 Girls), Ben (Year 8 Boys), Poppy S (Year 7 Girls) and Toby (Year 7 Boys).

Well done to our 14 runners for all completing the course and for going what might literally have been the extra mile.  Our team this week included the additions of Grace, Kyla, Leo, Oscar and Sophie to the squad.

  • Hugh Sexey Middle School Remembers The Queen

Wed 21 Sep 2022 Mrs Adair

    Hugh Sexey remembers the Queen

On Tuesday 20th September, the pupils of Hugh Sexey ended the period of national mourning by planting a tree to celebrate the life and service of Her Majestry Queen Elizabeth II.   Mrs Adair was joined by Mrs Harris and members of the Eco-club, as well as Chair of governors, Sue Moreman and our fantastic site team for the event.  The tree, a Ruby Falls Redbud tree was chosen for its beautiful flowers around the time of the Queens birthday as well as the heart-shaped burgandy leaves at this time of the year.  The Eco-club has accepted the responsibility of nurturing and protecting our new tree and will be looking after it as part of their weekly jobs.  The Queen was very fond of forests and woodlands as evidenced by the legacy she leaves behind in the 'Queen's Green Canopy" initiative and we hope she would have approved of our selection to mark her 70 years of service to her people, both near and afar.

10 runners from Hugh Sexey enthusiastically took part in a cross country race at Millfield Prep School in Glastonbury.

This race featuring runners from just Millfield and Hugh Sexey is a precursor to two more races later in September where more schools will be taking part.

Well done to Alice, Ben, Grace and Vin from Year 8 and Bo, Henry, Meghan, Poppy G, Poppy S and debutant Toby from Year 7 for a great effort so early in the school year.

  • STATEMENT FROM THE WESSEX LEARNING TRUST

    Mon 12 Sep 2022

It is with great sadness that we join the world in mourning for the loss of Her Majesty The Queen. We offer our heartfelt condolences to The King and the Royal Family.

The Trust stands together with our schools to grieve the passing of Our Queen, a figure of continuity, humility and kindness and this intense loss is felt deeply across our community.

Through our grief shines gratitude, for a Queen whose leadership has shown no bounds with her dedication and selfless service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Throughout her reign, she has demonstrated a deep level of respect, care and humility through extraordinary times of change. The Late Queen’s strong sense of resilience and courage never wavered, which is something we can all draw inspiration from and in fact, the very essence of what we as a Trust strive to achieve has been role modelled by The Queen, whose capacity to listen and lead community with a strong sense of morality has had a profound influence on our own values as a Trust.

As we come together within our schools and our communities to celebrate the life of Her Late Majesty, we hold close the legacy we have gained from Our Queen, that of hope, belief and aspiration.

May Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II rest in peace.
