  • U11 Primary Girls Football Tournament

Tue 31 Oct 2017 Mr Waterfield

Our U11 girls entered in the local primary schools tournament on Tuesday 17th October at Strode College.  There were 5 teams in total in the competition.

First we were up against Brookside, which was a great game of football from both teams. Hugh Sexey's won the game 6-0, with some great finishing especially from Maddie Durrant and Olivia Fuller.

Next game we were against Elmhurst A.  Ella Saxon, Cerys Webb, and Aida Rothery put up a great defence, keeping Elmhurst away from the danger zone and protecting our superb goal keeper, Edie Pargeter. Hugh Sexey's won the game 3-0.

After a short break we were then up against Elmhurst B.  There were brilliant midfield displays from Ella Holmes, Anika Badhen and Katie Radford who played some exciting, attacking football. It was a close game which Hugh Sexey's won 1-0.

By the last game against West Pennard, the girls were on fire; motivation was high, and some great passing football set up striker Maddie Durrant perfectly to smash home the majority of the goals.  Hugh Sexey's won 5-0.

It was a day of fabulous football from the girls involved; they were a terrific team who played together as a team and helped each other out.  A very big well done to the girls as they now progress through to the County Finals on 12th January at Strode College.

    Well Done girls!

  • Tinned Food Collection on Mufti Day

    Tue 17 Oct 2017 P. Bury
Friday was Mufti day for pupils at HSMS.  In return for wearing mufti pupils were asked to bring in a tin of canned food to donate to the food bank at Highbridge. All the tins were then boxed up and transported to Highbridge, where they were gratefully received by the volunteers.
This letter of thanks arrived at school earlier this week:
" I would like to thank all of the pupils, staff and parents from Hugh Sexey Middle School for their kind food contributions to the Highbridge Area Foodbank on Friday last week. A fantastic 366.04 Kilos was weighed in which will go a long way to feed those in need. Huge thanks also to the very helpful pupils who helped me fill my car up with all the donations. I hope everyone enjoyed their Mufti day!"

  • First Schools Tag Rugby festival 12/10/17

Mon 16 Oct 2017 Mr Waterfield

On a glorious autumn day all the local schools came to Hugh Sexey's to compete in the tag rugby festival.

All the youngsters who participated should be very proud that they were chosen to represent their schools.  The skills and team plays showcased on the day were fantastic. It was a very close run competition, and Wedmore just won by 1 point. Congratulations to Wedmore.

The Year 8 Sports Leaders led the festival and did some coaching for the schools which didn't have a game. They took the pupils off and did some skill zones with them, to help them improve on their weak areas ready for their next game.  All the sports leaders were superb at this.

Well done to all those involved; a great day of rugby was had by all.

  • Year 8s Visit Amitabha Buddhist Centre, Bristol

Thu 05 Oct 2017 Mr Bullock

Bristol Buddhist Centre Trip September 2017

On Tuesday the 26th of Semptember 2017, I had the pleasure of taking 39 Year 8 students on a visit to the Amitabha Buddhist Centre in Bristol. The day began with a warm welcome from Lamchen, an ordained Budhist Nun. The pupils were divided into two groups. One group went with Lamchen to learn all about what it is like, and what it involves, to be a modern day British Buddhist. We all found this talk enlightening and interesting.

At the end of the session, the pupils were able to ask Lamchen lots of questions to add to, and reinforce, what they had already learned in class. We also had the oportunity to learn about some of the various depictions and statues of Buddhas in the "Protector Room".

In the next session (led by a Buddhist Lay person) the children learnt to control their breathing to enable them to meditate. They were also able to have a go at meditating for themselves which we all found to be a relaxing and fulfilliing experience.

After lunch in the prayer garden we  had time to go back into the centre and make some sketches of the wonderful sculptures housed there, before heading home.
