  • Celts fundraising update

Tue 21 Feb 2017 Mrs Le Hunt

The Celts recently held a very successful fundraising week, raising £592.56. Half has been sent to CLIC Sargent and half to Neve's Journey. We received the following message in thanks:

Many Thanks to everyone involved in the Celts cake sale and mufti day which raised an amazing £296.28 for Clic Sargent (a charity which supports young people with cancer) and £296.28 to Neve's Journey. Neve is 15 years old and is bravely battling leukaemia. The money raised will contribute towards purchasing a 'cooling vest' for Neve as she struggles to regulate her temperature. If you would like to keep up to date with Neve's progress you can follow her on Facebook.com/Neve'sjourney. Your cakes and contributions are greatly appreciated and will make a difference to young people coping with these challenges.

  • Alice in Wonderland- Yr8 Production

Wed 08 Feb 2017 Miss Kendall

"Curiouser and curiouser...." A big congratulations to the year 8 cast and crew of 'Alice in Wonderland', which took place last week. Pupils and parents alike were entertained by the curious adventures of Alice (or rather three Alices) as she ventured through Wonderland, meeting the strangest of characters, including the Cheshire Cat, the (very late) White Rabbit, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee (or was it the other way around?), the Mad Hatter, March Hare, Caterpillar and Dodo, as well as a talkative doorknob, the bloodthirsty Queen of Hearts and the actually-quite-nice King of Hearts. Not to mention a whole host of sea-creatures, rock-lobsters, royal-cardsmen and some extremely snooty flowers... The pupils backstage played a huge role, doing lighting, sound, working in the wings, managing props, and doing make-up and hair, as well as managing the car-parking and front of house. Many of the props and costumes were made by year 8 pupils as part of a Design Technology project last term, as well as by the lunchtime props club which has been meeting regularly. We were very proud of what the children achieved during the show, and hope that it is an experience they will all remember... even when the songs are finally gone from our heads!

  • Girls head for Somerset School Football Finals

Thu 02 Feb 2017 Mr Waterfield

Hugh Sexey Under 12's girls have booked their place in the Somerset Schools Finals after beating local rivals Fairlands 5-0 at Fairlands school.

Due to illness Hugh Sexey's travelled without a few of their regulars, but this provided an opportunity for Libby to join the squad.

It was a very wet, muddy and boggy pitch that we played on. Hugh Sexey's started as the stronger team,  controlling the game and playing short passing football. This led the first goal scored by Izzy, who skilfully placed the ball in the bottom corner.

Fairlands came back into the game, but  Evie and Grace defended strongly and didn't let anyone past them; they were ably supported by the captain, Daisy, who played strongly all game, winning everything both on the ground and in the air.

The half time score was 1-0.  Hugh Sexey made some changes and Jessie, who had been in goal for the first half, came out in the second half; she immediately scored two great goals.  As the second half went on Hugh Sexey dominated the play, and added a further two goals scored by Izzy  completing her Hat-trick.  Great finishing skills.

In midfield Millie, Libby, and Jemima worked very hard all game running from box to box using their skills and pace to provide the ball to the strikers.

It was a very good afternoon of football.  Well done to the girls for reaching the Cup Final; they will be playing either Selwood or Crispin at Street FC, on Wednesday, 27th April.

    Congratulations girls.
