  • Ball Girls for Bristol Bears Womens' Rugby Team

Thu 25 Oct 2018 Mr Waterfield

Hugh Sexey's pupils Mary (8SK), Rosa (8DJ), Lucy (8GDA), and Freya (8DJ) were chosen by Mr Waterfield to be the Bristol Bears Women's Rugby team ball girls for the Tyrrell's Premiership League match against Firwood Waterloo RFC. Bristol won the game very comfortably.

The girls were introduced to the match officials and briefed by them on how to perform their duties: which was to be on the side of the pitch and to collect and retrieve the match balls kicked out of play etc..

They also met the Bristol Ladies rugby team and I hear they had a great afternoon.

    Well done girls.

Well done to Thelonious and Will, 8DJ, who raised over £160 for Lepra.  They did a sponsored bike ride which included cycling up and down Cheddar Gorge.  Great initiative and endeavour.

  • Thanks from Cheddar Food Bank

Tue 23 Oct 2018 Mrs Le Hunte

Thank you for the many donations to the Cheddar Foodbank. Together we sent them 395kg of food and toiletries - an amazing achievement! The Foodbank has been running for just over 5 years and is more in demand than ever. In the last year alone, they have assisted around 500 children and adults. With your help, we have ensured that they are able to continue to donate food and toiletries to those in need. Thank you once again.

  • Hugh Sexey's U13s Girls Football

Tue 23 Oct 2018 Mr Waterfield

    ESFA Nationals Round 2

We met our good friends Gordano again for the Nationals. (We were hoping to avoid them till later on in the season)

Gordano scored 3 early goals, however Hugh Sexey's came back very strong for the remainder of the 1st half and played some excellent football. Jemima Thurling then scored for Hugh Sexey's and gave us some hope.

The second half started in the same fashion, Gordano scored two goals quickly and won the game 5-1.

Hugh Sexey Girls should be very proud of themselves, Gordano are a very strong side and have girls in the team who play together both in school and at club level.  We have had a great run in the cup and all the girls have done superbly.

  • First Schools Tag Rugby festival 18/10/18

Tue 23 Oct 2018 Mr Waterfield

On this glorious autumn day all the local schools came to Hugh Sexey's to compete in the tag rugby festival.
All the youngsters who participated and represented their schools should be very proud; the skills and team plays showcased on the day were fantastic. It was a close competition and Mark School just won by 1 single point. Congratulations to Mark (see photo).

The Year 8 Sports Leaders led the festival and did some coaching with the schools who didn't have a game. They took the children off and did some skill zones with them, to help them improve ready for their next game.  The Sports Leaders were all superb at doing this. Special mention must also go to Will Creaser and Alex Scott for refereeing the games - they did an excellent job.

Well done to all those involved - pupils and Sports Leaders- it was a great afternoon of rugby.

Ellis, Max, Will, Ethan, Amelie, Chloe, Maddie, Finley, Dennis and Nathan all gave their best and particularly with some encountering difficulties during the race.  Finley was just pipped to a top 3 finish for the Year 7 boys with Nathan close behind.  Max and Ethan were also cheered on to an excitingly tight and fast pace finish to their run.

  • Yr 7 Rugby vs Wells Blue

Fri 19 Oct 2018 Mr McGrath
Well done to the year 7 rugby team who had an enjoyable game at Wells Blue. The team's preparation was affected with several players unavailable on the day. Enthusiastic year 6 players Oliver and Finley stepped in and enjoyed the experience very much. The team played some great rugby with excellent work at the breakdown by Oli and George. Kieron was on white hot form and benefited from the stream of quick ball. In the opening 20 minutes the pace of the game was breathtaking with phase after phase of pressure resulting in James storming through a gap to score. Hugh Sexey continued to move the ball wide with pace and precision and nearly collected further scores for Max, Ethan and Jack but just came short. Strong carrying by Louis, George and Oli kept engaging additional tacklers and making space out wide. Wells started to settle into the game and unleash their powerful runners with more frequency; at this stage Hugh Sexey needed to enhance their performance and they didn't disappoint. James gathered further scores. It was pleasing to see the level of competition and Wells worked tirelessly to prevent Hugh Sexey from scoring further scores through Oliver. Charlie had a good game and showed some nice touches. Hugo also looked busy and eventually scored after a lovely floated ball from Finley. In the end Hugh Sexey scored 6 tries to 2 in what was a very even and entertaining game.
Many thanks to Wells Blue for hosting and providing such a good spirited and challenging game.
  • Year 7 Hockey vs Crispin

Wed 17 Oct 2018 Mrs Allen

    Year Seven A versus Crispin

The girls captained by Freya Wills started well with a very strong attack. The Crispin defence

was strong and they fought off many attempts at goal by the two wings- Beau Stitch and Sophie Boley . The two midfielders worked endlessly to keep the ball up .

Frustratingly , at half time the score was 0-0

In the second half, the girls passed with more accuracy and found space . At last , a goal was scored followed by three more to make the final score 4-0 to Hugh Sexey.

Player of the Match –Jemima Seagrove.

    Year Seven B versus Crispin

The B team captained by Charli Beeson immediately scored and asserted their authority on the pitch. The attackers united well and the attack was relentless.

The defence with Scarlett Watters in goal was strong but one goal slipped past the keeper.

At half time the score was 6-1 to Hugh Sexey.

In the second half the Crispin fought back. Phoebe Wills never gave up and Freya Patch’s positive attitude was very inspiring. Charli whizzed a fantastic goal past the keeper. The final score was 7-2 to Hugh Sexey .

  • Under 13s Football vs Crispin

Tue 16 Oct 2018 Mr McGrath
Many congratulations to the under 13s football team who put in a commanding performance on the road against Crispin. Playing on a 4g surface the players quickly got to grips with the wider, bigger pitch. Wing backs Luc and Thelonious were frequently used to stretch the home defenders and the pair combined for the opening goal converted by Luc. Ben had a rapturous first half grabbing 3 goals and driving the team forward from central midfield. He was well supported by Dennis and Sam who kept it very simple and crisp with neat one and two touch play. The goals quickly racked up with Jacob hitting a scorcher from outside the box. With the game slipping away from Crispin Oscar, Jacob and Ben were removed to allow others a chance. George put in a strong showing bravely blocking a shot with his face and having the clarity to then travel with the ball from central defence and provide a telling assist.
The boys should be proud of their performance. None more so than skipper Oscar who put in a towering shift and then sportingly played the final half for the depleted opponents.
Many thanks to Crispin for hosting and honouring the fixture.
