  • Mendip Junior Schools Cross Country League final race.

Wed 06 Apr 2022 Mr Jackson

In a season with postponed and cancelled races, it seemed fitting that the course for the final one in the wonderful grounds of Downside School needed to be changed owing to fallen trees from Storm Eunice.

All our Year 5&6 runners were, as ever, up for the challenge and gave their best.

In the end of season awards that followed, Poppy S won the individual Upper Girls trophy and the Girls Upper Team won medals for achieving 2nd out of about 20 other schools.

Though no awards for the boys this season, it was also a fantastic effort from them throughout.

Many thanks to the parents and carers of our runners for all their support and encouragement throughout the season.

Many thanks also to Mrs Fox, Mr Banwell and one of our governors Johnny Torrens-Spence for more than ably covering the absence of yours truly.

  • KS3 mixed hockey club.

Mon 04 Apr 2022 Mrs Allen

Thursday 31st March was the  last hockey practice for this dedicated group of KS3 hockey enthusiasts. They have continued to play together every Thursday. I have been very encouraged by their love of the sport. We marked the occasion by awarding success cards to 15 players who have not missed one practice since September.

Thank you to Daniel for his lesson plans and assistance in coaching.

I hope that our year eights will continue to thrive in this sport .

    Well done to all.

  • Year 7 Netball vs Gryphon and Selwood.

Mon 04 Apr 2022 Mrs Allen

Recently we welcomed two schools - Gryphon and Selwood - to play our year sevens at netball.

It was a lovely sunny afternoon and the conditions were perfect for netball.

We hosted two teams as did Selwood. Each team played each team and there were some closely fought games. Selwood A team won overall with Gryphon coming in second. Our teams played well but on this occasion we came third.

The second photo is of Ben who has made Hugh Sexey history , being the first boy to represent the school in netball.

I am also very grateful to our four year eight sports leaders Hebe, Hannah,Heidi and Bonnie who have coached and supported this team at every lunch club and at every fixture. Thank you.
A very enjoyable afternoon of netball with very welcome refreshments at the end.
