  • Austin swimms into 2nd Place

Tue 11 Oct 2016 Mr McGrath
Congratulations to Austin  in 8AMW. Austin came 2nd in the 50m butterfly and front crawl swim at Midsomer Norton this weekend. Austin was competing against older opposition and he continues to push himself as a sportsperson. Austin has a great attitude to personal development and he is a fine example of a student with a growth mind set.

  • HSMS Horse Jumping Team

    Mon 10 Oct 2016 Ms A. Boydell
On Sunday a team of Archie Stamp, Abbie Bewley, Maisy Mitchell and Evie Puddy went back to Bicton for JWS.  It was the first time they had competed as this new team, and they were probably one of the youngest teams there.  We were so proud of them when they came 4th, and  qualified for the Schools plate in December.

  • Mendip Junior Cross Country Race

Fri 07 Oct 2016 Mr Jackson

The first race of the Mendip Junior Cross Country League has taken place with the following runners representing Hugh Sexey; Katie Radford, Philippa Griffiths, Kieron Clark, Finley Halford, Dennis Phillips, Alex Scott and Henry Williams.

It was an amazing event to be part of with nearly 400 competitors in total and plenty of family support too.

All of our runners ran their hearts out.  Particular praise to Katie and Finley who, on their first appearance for Hugh Sexey, came highly placed in a race that included Year 6 as well as their own Year 5.

After this first race of five, our boys team is currently placed 5th out of 22 schools.

We need more Year 5 and 6 girls to constitute a team.  Any girls interested should let their tutor know.

  • Under 11's Mendip Area Tournament

Wed 05 Oct 2016 Mr Waterfield

Hugh Sexey's Under 11s football team entered in to the Mendip area tournament playing against other local schools at Strode College.
In the very first match we were up against Fairland's, a hard match which ended up as 0-0 draw.
The second match was against Elmhurst A, which we won 3-0.
The third match was against St Benedict's which ended 3-0 to us.
The fourth match was against Elmhurst B.  It was a cracking match and the final score was 6-0 to us.
Unfortunately we didn't manage to progressed through to the next round - based on goal difference- which was very hard, especially considering we hadn't conceded a goal all tournament.  The lads were all superb and did their school proud. The level of football  played was very pleasing to see.
Squad - Sam Callow, Jacob Aberdeen, Thomas Bean, Ben Crook, Will Creaser, Nick Whitingham, Theo Jagger, Oli Richards and Oscar Boorman.
  • U13s ESFA Nationals Football Round2

Wed 05 Oct 2016 Mr Waterfield

Hugh Sexey's Under 13s National squad travelled locally to Crispin School in Street.  We arrived late due to a mix up with the coach company, but thankfully we had parents who were able to come and pick up the children and take them to Crispin to play this important match.

A quick warm up and then we had to crack on with the game.  Hugh Sexey's started the game by playing some really good football which resulted in us winning a penalty, Seb Martin using his experience to slot the ball home comfortably:1-0. A few minutes later an on-target bullet shot from Luke O'Brien put Hugh Sexey's in the lead: 2-0.

Hugh Sexey's let their heads drop a little which enabled Crispin to score two long range goals and even out the score: 2-2.

After the equaliser, Louis Bougourd scored a brilliant solo goal to settle Hugh Sexey's nerves before half time.

In the second half both schools continued to play some great football but no more goals were scored.  So when the whistle went Hugh Sexey's had won 3-2; we now progress onto the next round.

We saw some great team football, played on a bumpy pitch which isn't easy; well done guys.

    Mr Waterfield
