Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Yesterday we held our annual Cross Country Festival where our feeder schools come to compete against each other at Cross Country.
The Year 3's did 1 lap around the school field (approximately 1 KM) and the Year 4's did 2 laps (approximately 2KM)
The five schools competing were Axbridge, Lympsham, Mark, Weare, and Wedmore; all those who participated did their schools proud, and everyone did really well to complete the course.
Congratulations to Wedmore for just piping Axbridge and winning the team event. Well done!
Our year 8 sports leaders ran the event and were absolutely brilliant: they led the warm- ups, ran with the children around the field, acted as marshals telling them where to go, and most of all they were very encouraging and kept the younger children going. Well done guys.
Also a massive thank you to Mr Jackson and Mr Lamb for helping with the results/data.

Year 8 First X1 Versus Wells Blue (home )
It was a very cold start to this match.
Historically always a close match between these two sides, today was no different.
It is always pleasing to watch an eleven a side match as this is what the girls will all eventually play. Hugh Sexey got off to a good start with quite an early goal by Zoe Coles.
This team have played together for some time and this was reflected in their supportive teamwork. Pleasing to see the ball being passed to the two wings,Erin Watkins and Alice Roy.
There was then another goal by Grace White ( who has very successfully been selected for JDC development squad.) who hammered the ball past the Wells Keeper. Wells had possession in the first half but failed to get the ball past the defenders, Saskia Carrington, Evie Puddy ( thank you to her mother for washing team shirts.) and keeper,Kaitlin Pettitt.
In the second half the girls went onto score another three goals ,one of which was a well executed short corner ( reminded me of our ladies in Rio)
Well done to the team. A fantastic performance in cold conditions.
Final score 5-0 to Hugh Sexey . Players of the Match Saskia and Zoe
Hockey match versus Crispin year 7A and 7B (away)

The girls have not yet played together as a team. The eight girls that have been selected have been very regular members of club throughout their time at school. This was reflected in their teamwork and their high level of skill.
The match began well with an early goal.. The goal D was very small and it was difficult to score in the very congested area.
The girls kept to their positions well and the midfield would not allow any ball to travel into the opposition territory. This meant our two defenders had a slightly quiet game.
Captain, Ella Hodgson spread the ball well to the two wings- Harriet Griffiths and Ashling Kelway. Hannah Carter demonstrated her fitness and the game flowed.
Final Score 8-0 to Hugh Sexey. Players of the match Rhiannon and Ella.
Jess Haines scored 5 and Hannah Carter scored 3

The B team were very enthusiastic and lively and supported each other well throughout the match. Isabelle Cook ( more often found playing football!) demonstrated good positional awareness. The defence were strong and Meghan Ireland placed the ball well up the pitch as she took hit outs.
The girls scored three goals in the first half. Mia Johnson demonstrating her speed up the wing and Scarlett Smith consistent in stopping the ball and spreading it.
Captain, Isobel Talbot led well encouraging her team throughout. ( Many thanks to Isobel’s MM for her support in all the matches. )
Crispin scored one goal in the second half.
Final score Crispin 1 Hugh Sexey 3 Player of the match Mia Johnson.
The second race in the Junior Mendip Cross Country League saw a bigger turn out of 11 boys from Hugh Sexey.
With a bigger team came a stronger performance; moving up to 4th out of 23 schools for Years 5 and 6 boys. This included a storming run by one of our debutants Oscar who came 8th in the biggest ever entry for a race in this league of 134 boys.
We are still keen for more girls to take part and anyone interested should let Mr Jackson know.
The one girl who did run for Hugh Sexey, Katie, deserves particular praise for coming 2nd out of all the Year 5 girls and also having to put up with being the only girl on the bus for what must have felt like a long trip to and from Shepton Mallet.
