  • Under 13 Boys Football - HSMS vs Wells Blue

Mon 19 Feb 2018 Mr Waterfield

On a glorious sunny afternoon, we welcomed Wells Blue School to Hugh Sexey's.

We knew this would be a tough match, as Wells Blue won the match last season.  We only had  11 boys fit to play; 4 of our key players were either ill or injured. Nether the less the 11 boys who played all got a full game and they did brilliantly.

Hugh Sexey's went ahead first after a cool finish from George Moss, who is on fire with his goal scoring at present. Credit to Wells Blue for keeping the pressure up, Hugh Sexey's defended well, especially Goal Keeper Sam Tucker who put some great shot stopping saves. As half time approached the score was Hugh Sexey's 1: Wells Blue 0.

Second Half -  it was Wells who started the game better.  The Blue School equalised after Hugh Sexey's back 3 were caught napping, allowing their striker to creep past them and slot the ball home in the bottom corner.  Hugh Sexey's never-die attitude was great; they put the ball on the center spot and started again with their heads held up high.

Some great footwork skills from Nathan Radford got the ball to Fraser Bruce who then put George Moss through.  George then went round the keeper to score what could be a contender for goal of the season. A great premier league finish!

Wells Blue hit back at us for a short time, but some great defending and team effort from Hugh Sexey's denied them another goal.  A good shot on goal was saved by Well's keeper, but he  couldn't hold the ball and George Nuttycombe showed his great reading of the game, reacted to the fumble, and slotted the ball home to finish the game 3-1.

It was a truly great afternoon of local schools football. Both teams were a real pleasure to referee.

  • Year 7 and 8 Netball at St. Dunstans.

Fri 02 Feb 2018 Mrs Allen
Year seven and year eight netball competition at St. Dunstans.
    February 1st

Both teams travelled to Glastonbury to St. Dunstans school to play netball in a friendly competition versus St.Dunstans, Selwood and Oakfield schools. It was a rare sunny day and spirits were high.
    Year seven
Captained by rock climber, Evie Martin the team played well winning all three matches. The shooting was excellent backed up by strong defenders and midfield play. Varnia was the GA (goal attack) and her accuracy improved with each match.
    Year eight
Captained by experienced club player, Mia Johnson the year eights played with enthusiasm and skill. They lost the first match to Oakfield but won the following two. They therefore won on goal difference.  Each girl marked tightly and the shooting in the last match versus Selwood was impressive.
It was a good experience for both teams and it was all played in good spirit. Thank you to our student teacher Miss O'Brien who recently confessed to playing in the Welsh squad as a younger player and who has been supporting the key stage  three girls at Wednesday club.  Her tips have proved very useful.

  • Year 8 Boys' Football - HSMS vs Kings College, Taunton

    Under 13s Football

Hugh Sexey's started the game with the kick off and I could see that our boys were very focussed and determined to put on a good display of football.

Kings College scored the first goal in the opening few minutes.  From that moment Hugh Sexey's kept their heads up and moved on, starting to play passing football.

The boys soon worked out that putting the ball wide, and up over their defence, was putting Kings College under huge pressure; it created space for our runners to run through, which in turn lead to us scoring some goals.

George Nuttycombe tapped in the first goal after a brilliant free kick from Ethan Floyd. Shortly after this George Moss added a brace: the first one he very cleverly took the ball around the keeper to slot it home, and the second was a world -class great finish, that came off the post and rolled into the back of the net.

Spirits were high; the boys started to believe in themselves and kept the ball moving superbly, playing one of the best games of football  I've seen them play all season.  Another goal came from a cool, sublime finish from Ethan Floyd, and then George Moss completed his hat trick making the score  5-1 to HSMS, before half time.

In the second half we changed our game plan, and decided to protect our lead and defend more.  The lads all defended superbly and the game finished 5-1.

A special mention to Ethan Floyd for his brilliant display at Centre Back, to George Moss for a brilliant hat trick, and to Tom Morgan who made his debut for the school team, and was also voted player of the match.

I very much enjoyed watching this match. It was particularly pleasing to see both teams playing with the the correct attitude, and to see them enjoying playing for their school with a smile on their faces.

    Well done to everyone involved.
