Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
The year 7 House Matches brought down the curtain on what has been a very pleasing week of events. With still and calm weather the scene was set for a fun afternoon and the players did not disappoint. There was a lovely feeling in the air with almost the whole year in PE kit and lots of flags and banners to support the teams. All of the matches were played in an excellent spirit. It is great to see the boys take the event so seriously but at the same time they all adhere to the correct ethics and values of sport. The year 8 sport leaders of Oscar and Luc made a great contribution and leant their wisdom to the younger players.
The participation trophy went to the Normans but in fairness they were one of only 2 houses who had enough players to fulfil the games. In the spirit of the game Houses leant players to fulfil fixtures and this provided extra opportunities for game play. Will had a tournament to remember scoring 3 goals all taken with clinical aplomb. For his last he showed remarkable pace to stride through and slot into the bottom corner. Joshua had a fine afternoon and racked up a number of games. He combined physicality with excellent sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. I was also very proud of Morgan who has come on leaps and bounds this term and really showed a change in his attitude and application. Other notable performance were Fin, Daniel, Thomas and Oli to name a few. All of the players deserve immense credit for the way they have improved this term and it is delightful to see them all enjoying the game.
In the elite competition the Vikings were crowned champs with 3 wins from 3. Kayden and Jamie were both impressive in-between the sticks but the strength of the Vikings meant that their keeper, Thomas was only required to make a handful of saves. Dennis, Ellis and Will all had good games whilst the Spinks twins showed they could combine soft touches with their brawn to make telling contributions. Louis and George continue to progress as players and Riley, Oli and Issac were rocks at the heart of their teams defensive hub.
Well done to all involved.
Autumn, 6ILH, has returned from the Highbridge festival with 2 gold medals for Tap and Modern, both age 9-10. She also entered the Song and Dance category, which she sang with “a lot of emotion” and had “good lift and freedom” in her dance.
Well done Autumn.
Twelve runners represented Hugh Sexey in the latest race of the Mendip Junior Cross Country League for Years 5 and 6. The venue was a wet Tor Leisure in Glastonbury.
There were excellent top 10 finishes from Charlie, Fynn and Ruby.
Lewis also put in his strongest performance yet and Emmie had a great debut too; both finishing in the top 20 in their races.
The girls team came 4th out of 20 schools in this race; their best placing of the season so far.
The boys team came 2nd out of 20 schools and are still in with a shout for the best team of the season but will be need to be 1st in the final race later this month.
The year 8 house football matches were a wonderful celebration of the hard work and commitment the boys have shown this year and beyond. In one competition the final place went to the team with the most goals scored. The Saxons and Viking both got equal points but in the end the Saxons nicked it on goal difference. Not surprising when you consider it was a side containing the attacking threats of Crook, Griffiths, Callow and Williams. Mr Waterfield was thrilled with the spirit and camaraderie shown by the players and it is pleasing to see them understanding the core values of sport.
The Celts emerged as the winners of the participation competition. It was great to see players helping other houses out with numbers and lovely to see the likes of Duggan, McPherson and Dyte score well taken goals. Star turn of the day was Davies, who in reflection probably should have played up a level.
It has been a very pleasing term with excellent achievement across the board. It is a very talented year group but most pleasing to me is that every boy feels valued and appears to enjoy participating in competitive sport.
