  • Year seven and year eight hockey match v Crispin ( away)

Thu 07 Nov 2019 Mrs Allen
    Tuesday 5th November

    Year 7
The year sevens have been attending club on a Wednesday and for many of these girls it was their first experience of an away fixture for the school.
The year seven played a seven- a- side match on Astro. Maddie R is showing promise as a GK and  is  getting used to moving around in all the kit. It was a closely fought match with some great moments of team play throughout.  Amelie B scored our only goal after dribbling the ball to an empty D . Crispin also scored one goal.
Well done to Poppy C who was voted player of the match by the opposition. Also well done to the other team members: Annie B, Genna A , Beatrice, Abi C ,
    Final score 1-1
    Year 8
The girls played their first 11- a side  game on the full pitch. The match was played with football goals, which are wider than the hockey goal. From the start of the game Hugh Sexey girls dominated play. Every player gave 100% and I felt very proud to be their teacher. Jemima S was everywhere as Centre midfield and proved almost impossible to get past. Great passing and goal scoring from Natasha B and consistent play from the dedicated captain , Sophie B. The final score was a blistering 9-0 to Hugh Sexey despite a very strong Crispin GK.
Well done to all girls: Charli, Freya W,  Scarlett, Freya P, Natasha, Jemima, Sophie B, Winnie W, Roxy W , Lydia O, Beau S
Congratulations to Jemima who was voted player of the match by the opposition.
  • KS2 Indoor athletics competition at Wells Cathedral School.

Wed 06 Nov 2019 Miss Palmer

A team of fifteen athletic Year 5 and Year 6 boys and girls travelled to Wells Cathedral School to take part in an Indoor Team Athletic Competition. Hugh Sexey School was competing against Crispin, Oakfield, Selwood, Catcott, Harrington, West Pennard, Walton, Brookside and St Vigour and St John.

They took part in both track and field races such as: team relays, obstacle races, vertical jumps, long jumps and an endurance run.  The girls' team won a number of their running and obstacle races, and the boys excelled in the field events one of which was a standing ball throw.

The schools accumulated points from individual performances and these were then carried forward to produce a total team score. With strong performances from all  members of the team, Hugh Sexey secured a 3rd place for the boys' team, a 2nd Place for the girls' team and a combined team position of 2nd.

  • Years 5 & 7 - rugby vs Fairlands

Wed 06 Nov 2019 Mr McGrath
Many congratulations to the year 5 and 7s rugby team who both took part in excellent fixtures away at Fairlands. The year 7 team captained by Finley put in an excellent performance against a very physical Fairlands team. Archie, Lewis and Ryan all had strong games and looked dangerous with the ball in hand. Jack caused a lot of disruption for the opposition with some hard tackles and aggressive clear outs at the ruck. In the end the boys could not secure the win but should take pride in a spirited performance.

On the opposite pitch the year 5 team demonstrated the promise they have shown at rugby club and in lessons. It was a close game that the year 5s managed to win. This was down to the direct running of Austin, Frank, Will and Michael and the tremendous attitude in defence by all of the players.

    Well done to all involved.
  • Mendip Junior Cross Country League - race 2

Wed 06 Nov 2019 Mr Jackson

Eleven runners from Years 5 & 6 took part in a cross country event at Collett Park in Shepton Mallet.

Owing to transport difficulties, I am grateful to the organisers and attending parents for holding up the start of the girls race until our arrival.  Thank you also to Mr Passmore for his support and, in particular, ensuring that all our runners had their numbers pinned by the time the bus arrived at Shepton Mallet.

Owing to this delay, our girl runners had to make a few hundred metres dash simply to get to the start line.  I am proud of how Alice, Grace, Iris and Ruby took this in their stride (literally) and still put in a great effort in the race.

The boys' effort was great too.  Particular congratulations to Jamie for achieving a top ten finish for the first time and Fergus as our other runner who improved on his position from the first race.

In this race, our girls team was third and our boys team was third also.  Pretty impressive with over 20 schools taking part.

  • First outing for equestrian team.

Mon 04 Nov 2019 Sonja Beasley

During half term some members of the equestrian team had their first outing at the NSEA Grassroot showjumping qualifiers at Kings Sedgemoor Equestrian.
The team of Iris Snelgrove, Emilia McCutcheon, Harriet Quick and Poppy Scriven competed in the 50cm and 60cm classes. They all jumped beautiful clear rounds in both classes and achieved an amazing 2nd place in both. They have therefore qualified for the regional championships in January. Iris also jumped 2 very fast rounds to get individual 1st and 6th places. A successful day for the girls and lots of fun. They are now looking forward to the championships next year.
