Mon 18 Mar 2024 Mrs Bury

On Friday 8th March, Jess (5OM) took part in an adult demonstration team in the Kennel Club activity area of Crufts. Jess spent 30 minute sessions in the "Pen" with her dog Ginny, answering questions about the sport and about herself and Ginny.

The following day, Saturday 9th March, Jess took part in the Young Kennel Club KC Rally competition; at 9 years old, Jess was the youngest competitor present.

After a great round, Jess was placed 2nd (Reserve). The eldest competitor (aged 23) won the competition.

What an amazing achievement Jess; well done!

  • Book Fair Bonanza

Mon 18 Mar 2024 The library team

BOOKFAIR Huge thanks to all of the parents, carers and guardians who supported the school Book Fair - we raised a whopping £1265.56. This will give us significant rewards to spend with Scholastic for new books over the year and makes a massive difference to the library. We will be delivering the orders on Friday 22nd March when the items are delivered to us. It was lovely to see so much enthusiasm from our budding readers! Many thanks to our fabulous pupil Librarians who gave up their time to help support the event, it wouldn't have been possible without their help.

  • Madox wins Orienteering Championship

Mon 18 Mar 2024 Mrs Bury

Madox (5IB) came first and won the Junior Orienteering Group Spring Championships with the Quantock Orienteers.

He has been doing Orienteering for a year and has overcome a number of difficult sessions and competitions - pushing through wind, rain and shine, crossing a lot of rivers and up and down hills to achieve this result. What an amazing achievement; well done Madox.

  • Netball - HSMS vs Fairlands

Mon 18 Mar 2024 Mrs Allen

It was good to welcome the netball teams from Fairlands . Each year group was represented in this annual competition between the two middle schools . The event got underway despite the very damp and cold conditions.

Year 7 and year 5 started. It was a very close battle for the year sevens and the ball was travelling fluidly up and down the court. A last minute net from captain Kitty saw the final score at 2-1 to Hugh Sexey

The year five played brilliantly in their first match for the school . Olive the captain led her team to victory and the final score 7-1 to Hugh Sexey

Year eight and six played next. It was good to see the other teams cheering for their school.

Year eight played very calm netball and finally won 7-2 . Some excellent shooting from Tabitha and Sophia . Year six have been very keen at club and they played very good netball . Xanthe and Eva shot well and eventually won 8-2

Thank you to Mrs Pople from Fairlands for all her hard work in getting her teams to us here at school .

Very encouraging netball from both schools.

  • Thank you to pupils and families for prioritising attendance

    Fri 15 Mar 2024 R Adair

A positive connection is well known to exist between strong, regular attendance at school and pupils being better able to reach aspirational outcomes in their learning.  Being in school also helps pupils to develop lifelong friendships and relationships with adults and peers.

CONGRATULATIONS to our pupils and families for being recognised for fantastic attendance last term.

If you feel that you would like to speak to your child's teacher or head of year about attendance issues concerns, please don't hesitate to contact that school office, who gladly direct your enquiry.

  • House Football Matches

Thu 14 Mar 2024 Mr McGrath

Well done to all the pupils who represented their Houses in the School Football Competition. It was wonderful to see so many pupils taking such pride in playing for their Houses and the level of skill and commitment on show was an absolute joy to watch. Thanks also to all the Sport Leaders and members of staff who contributed to the 4 competitions.

In year 5 the Vikings were victorious in a well matched and spirited competition. The year 6 winners were Saxons who had quality all over the pitch. The year 7s competition was a thrilling event from start to finish with every House fielding 2 teams and all the players making a valuable contribution. The Saxons took the honours in the end but it was an evenly matched contest throughout. In year 8 the Vikings were triumphant in a competition that hinged on a close fought match between them and the Saxons.

  • Mendip Junior Cross country Race @ Downside

Mon 04 Mar 2024 Mr Jackson

A bumper team of 17 runners from Years 5 & 6 took part in the penultimate race of the Mendip Junior Schools Cross Country League at Downside School.  This included first time appearances from Bebe, Charlie, Evelyn, Thea and Xanthe.

A fantastic effort all round in muddy and slippy conditions.  Several of our runners had their strongest race of the season.  Tilly and Bea not only achieved top 10 positions but were also the best Year 5 runners in their race.  Will continues to go from strength to strength and ran brilliantly to finish fourth out of 100 runners.
