Art Intent Statement:
At Hugh Sexey all of our pupils have access to an Art curriculum that promotes creativity, expression and experimentation underpinned by sound technique. In every lesson we encourage our pupils to be aspirational and to push the limits of their capability. This is done by presenting a curriculum that caters to all abilities whilst offering window of opportunity for our more able pupils to stretch and grow. It is a highly inclusive curriculum that offers a rich variety of artistic opportunities. Themes and topics are sequenced and have cross curricular links. Speech, language and communication is a central part of Art lessons and the curriculum and pupils learn how to express what they are creating. The breadth and balance of the topics covered throughout the school year inspire our pupils and provide opportunities for all to be creative and curious whilst allowing the more able to continue to refine technique. Lessons allow for creativity and exploration. Promoting a learning environment that offers cultural and social development. Pupils are actively encouraged to try new skills and approaches and to not be afraid of failure or mistakes. Diversity is at the forefront of what we do. Every child is supported and has access to high quality lessons.
