  • Music trip to Kings Of Wessex

Thu 25 Apr 2024 Mrs Harrison

Yr8 Music visit to KOW 23rd April 2024

I accompanied our year 8 pupils to Kings of Wessex to meet and listen to Jo Hill perform with her band. Jo performed three songs and then did a question-and-answer session about her journey and the music industry. It was interesting to listen to how she has got to where she is today and her ambitions for the future. Jo talked to the pupils about the best ways to release songs, the role of the producer, the ups and downs of her career so far. The pupils asked some great questions exploring employability within the music industry. We look forward to seeing Jo when she reaches her dream of performing at Glastonbury.

We went to King's to watch Jo Hill perform with her band. Jo went to Fairlands and then studied GCSE music at Kings of Wessex and had the Violin and Piano lessons.

This was the start of her music journey. It was during lockdown that she started to write songs about her feelings and emotions. She got herself a producer, started to release songs and moved to London . Her song 'The City Never Sleeps' was written whilst she was suffering from Insomnia. She is a rising star and has recently been in America songwriting with Ed Sherran. We had lots of questions for her and learnt a lot about her journey.

Mon 22 Apr 2024 Mrs Bury

Stanley travelled to Snowdonia National Park last weekend to start his SuperOne championship campaign.  Despite an issue with his kart's engine power he came 4th at the end of the competition, and was awarded the top SuperOne Rookie Trophy.  Stanley is now third place in the overall Rally Replay SuperOne national Championships; what a fantastic weekend of racing!

  • Edgarley Cross Country Relays

Thu 28 Mar 2024 Mr Jackson

Millfield Prep School hosted it's annual cross country relay event on the slopes of Glastonbury Tor.  20 runners from Years 7&8 represented Hugh Sexey in a competition between four schools.

Our highest placed team was Henry M, Flinn R, Preston P and Noah B.

Our pupils not only displayed determination in their running but also had to contend with two hail storms during the event.  Their efforts were rewarded with hot dogs provided by Millfield and cakes baked by Bethany's wonderful Mum.

  • Year 7s Create Mental Health Area

Wed 27 Mar 2024 Mrs Allen

It has been brilliant to support 7KA with an idea they had way back in September. They suggested a mental health area,  where younger pupils could experience some well-being activities. This became reality as four of our year five classes have been having taster sessions on a Wednesday .

The year seven pupils have been leading den building , yoga , art and talking therapy in the forest school area.

The year fives have enjoyed the fresh air and a chance to work with the older pupils.

Well done to the following year sevens: Emily , Verity , Harry, Jack W, Elijah, Ed, Harrison, Olivia, Lily F and Brooke for their commitment and hard work.

  • Year 8 Netball Tournament at Fairlands.

Wed 27 Mar 2024 Mrs Allen

A very enjoyable afternoon of netball.

HSMS have been working hard on their skills every Thursday and it was good to see their hard work pay off.

Six schools in total: Fairlands, Selwood, Oakfield , Wells Blue and St. Dunstans.

    Every school played each other.

Selwood school looked very slick and eventually were the champions.

We played good netball and our shooting was very accurate( well done to Tabitha, Olivia, Grace and Kitty) Some outstanding midfield play from Seren, Esme, Amber and Grace. The defenders played well too ( Emma and Poppy) Many thanks to Eliza for her support even with an injury.

HSMS came in at joint second with Wells Blue and Fairlands came third .

I particularly enjoyed witnessing both Trust schools cheering for each other which bodes well for their year nine squad.

Thank you to our parents for their support with this fixture.

  • Year 8 Hugh Sexey Bake Off

Mon 25 Mar 2024 Miss Latti

Year 8 Hugh Sexey Bake Off

Over the course of this term, Year 8 pupils in Group A have participated in the annual Hugh Sexey Bake Off. Pupils have once again amazed us with their technical baking skills, originality and unique combination of flavours. During the bake off pupils were incredibly focused and worked hard to create their baked food products within the set time constraints. It was lovely seeing pupils take great pride in their work. Well done to all those involved!

  • Tag Rugby Event for Year 8s

Thu 21 Mar 2024 Mr McGrath

Many thanks to the year 13 pupils from Kings of Wessex who travelled to us and organised a mixed tag tournament for over 50 year 8 pupils.

It was great to catch up with Rosa, Lucy and William and pleasing to see that their love of sport has not diminished and they are enjoying sharing this with the wider community. The tournament was fabulously run with all of the pupils active and engaged throughout. There was some excellent rugby with Millie, Olivia, Meghan, Bo and Poppy all playing exceptionally well for their teams. Although it was a highly competitive event it was great to see a large number of our pupils playing and conducting themselves in the right manner. I know the leaders really appreciated it. Henry O, Frankie, Noah B and Oliver M were some of the many pupils who were a credit to themselves and the school. Bennie was rightly crowned player of the tournament and he encompassed all that is good about sport and competition. He did all he could to win each game but never left out his team mates and found time to show respect and compassion to the opposition. An absolute pleasure to be around.

Best of luck to the A level pupils on the final stages of their assessment.

  • Year 7 Netball Tournament

Thu 21 Mar 2024 Mrs Allen

The year seven team travelled to Oakfield school in Frome on Tuesday to play in the year seven tournament .

The girls played well and enjoyed some very good competitive games. The captain Kitty led by example and supported her team brilliantly on the court and at the sidelines .

It was great to see some new faces playing for the school .

The teams present were Selwood , Oakfield and Wells Blue . Hugh Sexey came third with Selwood finishing in first.

    Well done .
