THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER! - Er, Sie, Es

Write out the sentences, filling in the colours!

This lesson we will be looking at the word 'it'.

Just as there are three words for 'the' in German, there are also three words for 'it'.

er       sie        es

You use er for masculine nouns, sie for feminine, and es for neuter nouns.

Below are some items of stationery. Find out the word for each by checking the questions underneath!

Imagine you are going to a shop to ask how much they cost. Write the answer to each question, using the correct version of er, sie or es each time.

Listen to the recordings and write a question for each of the answers you hear. You will need to look at the stationery pictures again.

eg.

You heard, Sie kostet vier Euro. So the question you should have written was....Was kostet die Schere?

(There are two items that cost 4 euros, but only one of them is feminine, the scissors).
