Hannah and Grace kept up their fantastic form from previous races by coming second in the Year 7 Girls and Years 8&9 Girls races respectively.
Ewan and Nathan, in the Year 7 Boys race, avoided the mistake of setting off too fast and came steadily through the pack finishing in 7th and 5th respectively.

Wednesday 7th December
This was a great match, rather late in the season due to wet weather cancellation.
A small group of year eight boys have been working on their hockey skills throughout the term . Led by a very talented captain, Charlie Jackson, the boys enjoyed a highly competitive match.
The first half was goal less, thanks to some brilliant goalkeeping by Owen Toleman. Owen has naturally taken to this position. Louis Bougourd, who was only able to play in the first half, displayed great tenacity and fitness.
Castle scored two goals in the second half quite early on. Archie Joskey- Martin played with fierce determination which earned him the Captain’s player of the match. It was great to see the boys unite as a team to be rewarded with a blinding goal by Charlie.
The final score was 2-1 to Castle School.
A special mention to Charlie Jackon who has given freely of his time to both this team and in the coaching of year five and six girls. Thank you.
Many thanks to Wellington College, who visited Hugh Sexey as part of their rugby tour. The boys had been looking forward to the game all year, and even the freezing conditions couldn't deter the boys enthusiasm. Wellington's coach, Mr Renyard brought 2 teams from year 6, and this allowed all of the Wellington team the opportunity to show their rugby skills.
On pitch 1 a close and physical game was taking place. Wellington looked very skilful and well drilled and moved the ball around like the Fijian 7s side; always looking for offloads, and moving the ball wide at every opportunity. We played a different game, keeping the ball a little tighter because of the conditions, and using strong runners like Tom Drummond, Ben Crook, Thelonious Jagger and Toby Marshall to carry the ball into the opposition and tie in the defenders. With two different styles on display, the game was quite the spectacle, and when the Wellington defenders did tire, Will Creaser was able to spot mismatches to send players into score. The score line was close throughout, with excellent play from Sam Callow and Kyle Downie. With the game set at 3 tries each Wellington got the decisive score, after some excellent broken field running. When the final whistle blew the score was 4-3 Wellington, and both teams knew they had been involved in an excellent match.
On pitch 2 it was a similar case of two different styles. For the first 5 minutes, Wellington threw the ball around with reckless abandonment, and some of the ball handling on display was a sight to behold. Hugh Sexey were ably marshalled by Oscar Boorman, and it is a credit to their defence that they were able to prevent Wellington from scoring. Henry Fisher, Henry Williams and Charlie Rant tackled with venom throughout, and were determined to not let Wellington through. After the away side had exhausted their options, Williams pounced on a loose ball and burst through the defence to score. The score was totally against the run of play and seemed to bring the best out of the players. Shortly afterwards, Boorman dashed through after a well worked move from a lineout. Wellington came back into it after some bruising carries from their forwards. Indeed, but for some last gasp defending from William Bougard, Ben Turrell and George Harris Wellington could have drawn level. After sustained defensive pressure, Rant won the ball and wriggled over for a decisive score. In the second half Wellington came back into it, and started to keep the ball a little closer to the ruck and use their forward runners. However, Wellington had the rub of the green at times, and Wellington were unable to convert all their opportunities. In the end the game finished 4-3 to Hugh Sexey.
Many thanks to all of the parents who gave their support and a huge thanks to the staff and students from Wellington who contributed to a wonderful afternoon.
After an exciting and action packed few days we are now on our way home. We had a great day yesterday at the zoo and all the children (and staff) are now fairly tired!
Everyone is looking forward to seeing their parents, and their own beds.
