Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Well done to our Year 7&8 cross country girls team (Hannah, Olivia, Katie and Chloe) and boys team (Finley, Luc, Joel and Ben) who took part in the Edgarley Relays at Millfield Prep School in Glastonbury.
Teams from about 15 schools took part and all our runners put in an excellent effort in the 4 x 1 mile relay race over a hilly course in an idyllic setting.
With no rain (or snow), biting wind or muddy conditions, you could tell the cross country season has come to an end!
The final race took place at Tor Leisure Centre in Glastonbury. This race saw consistently strong performances across the Hugh Sexey girls' and boys' teams. Ruby and Emmie again performed fantastically finishing in the top few as did Lewis with his best run of the season.
There was an individual award for Ruby as a top Year 5 runner and the boys all received a medal as they ended the league as the third best team.
Congratulations for another fantastic season to all our runners from the girls team (Ruby, Izzy, Sofia, Emilia, Matilda and Emmie) and boys team (Oscar, Fynn, Zach, Charley, Misi, Charlie, Lewis and Oli) and one of hares Finley.
Our runners can take inspiration from Oliver Fox, an ex pupil of Hugh Sexey, who will be representing Great Britain this weekend in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Denmark.
The year 8 boys put in a strong performances in a highly competitive local derby. Mr Waterfield took the decision to shuffle the side for this fixtures and give players an opportunity to impress before the County final. Creaser revelled in the opportunity to lead the line and put away a poachers finish when he was played through on goal by the impish talents of Poole. Crook took the number 1 jersey and put in an excellent shift between the sticks. Combining reflex saves with high risk dribbling out of defence. Jagger made a scoring entrance from the bench and they was a superb goal by Griffiths after more fine work by Callow.
At the end of the game the realisation that this time next year the players from the 2 sides would be likely to be playing together was a fitting conclusion to a quality match. Thanks also to Oscar who helped run the side.
The Year 3's from our local feeder schools came to Hugh Sexey's today for their annual Multi Skills Festival.
The festival consists of doing different skills such as football, rugby, hockey, tennis, etc.
The Year 3 children loved it and had a really good time; I was very impressed by how they all got on with the activities and just kept going - they had great fun! The success of the afternoon was all down to our excellent Year 8 Sports Leaders, who were fabulous. They led the warm- ups, ran the festival and delivered/coached all the sports. More importantly they were great with the younger children and gave them lots of encouragement.
Well done everyone, it was a superb afternoon of sport.
