Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This was the rescheduled cross-country event . It was nice to welcome our year threes and fours to school.
There were four feeder schools in this year's event - Weare, Mark, Lympsham and Wedmore. There was a year three race followed by the year fours. I was impressed with the high standard of running and every pupil gave their very best.
Thanks to Mr Jackson for all his hard work with the results and overall motivation.
Also, to the sports leaders who inspired and encouraged .
Individual medals were awarded .
The first-place cup went to Weare this year.
I look forward to the next festival which is athletics on 14th June.
This match had been rescheduled twice.
Fairlands arrived on a glorious sunny day.
Year six got off to a fast start and both sides looked strong and competitive. Excellent shooting from the GA and GS on both teams.
It was a very exciting game to watch.
Final score 10-6 Hugh Sexey Win
Year five girls have been so looking forward to this match. Their shooting was excellent and they played like a well oiled machine together.
Final score 15- 0 Hugh Sexey Win
Well done all
Thank you to Leila , Iris , Tilly C and Grace B for support with club and the matches
On Monday 15th May pupils and staff were treated to a visit from the Avon and Somerset Police Mounted section. Pupils were able to ask Officer Rowan and Officer Tristian about what it was like to be a mounted police officer, including their training, career progression and daily and specail duties. Pupils also found out about some of the civilian jobs that are needed to support the mounted section such as the work of grooms and estate managers. Officer Rowan talked to pupils about how they select the horses to use for mounted policing and Officer Tristian helped pupils understand how they keep themselves and the horses safe while on patrol. It was lovely to have horses Windsor and Redcliffe and the officers on our school field for the lunchtime event and a great way for pupils to interact in a positive way with law enforcement.
James, 6AH, plays tennis for Wells Tennis club. Last month he was selected to be team captain for a 12 and under team play competition. With plenty of team energy supplies in hand, he and his team mates won the event, beating Cheddar, Burnham and Frome by 8 points. A really great way for local teams to play each other and superb performance all round.
Hard work definitely pays off! Well done James.
Our pupils enjoyed participating in a collective singing session at St Marys Church, Wedmore, before the Coronation on Saturday, 6th May. We were joined by pupils from Wedmore and Weare First Schools.
Battle of the Bands in Collective Worship
Today pupils and staff were treated to a fantastic music concert to celebrate our termly value, Koinonia (Christian community and fellowship) and this week's virtue of sharing. The sharing of music is very special and can be incredibly moving. Today, pupils clapped and bopped along, clearly enjoying the experience.
Our KS3 Rock Band, led by Mr Lehunte, played two 'rockin' tracks, Another one bites the dust (Queen) and Holiday (Greenday). Michael, Henry and Mr Lehunt played the guitars, Bella was on drums and vocals were sung by Bo, Sophie, Emma and Poppy.
As well as the KS3 Rock Band, we were so pleased to welcome Christine, Andrew, Rachel and Jo, of the Bristol String Quartet who came in to play for us. They played popular songs on classical, orchestral instruments - two violins, a viola and a cello. There was lots of clapping along to Dolly Parton's 9-to-5, and Mr Brightside was a firm favourite.
At Hugh Sexey, we appreciate special opportunities like this where pupils have a chance to see how their passions can be developed into rewarding and fulfilling careers. Christine and her group were keen to answer questions about how they became professional musicians and gave advice freely to any young person who enjoys music and might wish to study it further.
Five pupils from Years 5 and 6 were invited to represent Mendip in an inter-area cross country event at Yeovil/Mudford recreation ground. It pitted the best cross country runners of their age group in Somerset against each other.
Our runners did themselves and Mendip proud. Charlie, Henry and Stanley all finished in the top 30 out of over 60 runners. Both excelling themselves and pushing themselves to the full, Bethany finished in the top 10 and Louis in the top 5.
A fantastic conclusion to our cross country competitions this year.
