American Museum Understanding Slavery workshops:
Year 8 pupil had the fortunate opportunity to participate in 'Understanding Slavery' workshops as part of their History topic on Slavery thought time. Their unit focuses on the issues and actions of the Transatlantic Slave trade and by working with Ellie, the Education officer from the American Museum in Britain, they were able to gain a great deal of insight into the 5 main themes of the Slave Trade; Traditional life in Africa, Trade and Commerce, Plantation Life, Resistance, and Abolition. Pupils handled and queried a very wide range of artefacts and primary documents, all of which helped them to improve their evidence interpretation skills. The pupils now have a significantly improved understanding of and empathy for the plight of the enslaved people of the slave trade
