County Cricket Final

On Thursday the 7th of July Hugh Sexeys Year 5/6 cricket team travelled to Wembdon cricket club to take part in the county cricket final which they qualified for in June after winning 6/6 games. The team were placed in a group of 3 schools and started the day with a game against St Andrews captain Jack B won the toss and chose to bowl first. Ben S and Jack L got the team off to a great start both taking some early wickets. St Andrews kept going and finished with a total of 39 runs. Hugh Sexey who already had a score of 20 after taking 4 wickets comfortably beat this score with Jack B, Freddie S and Emilia P showing their skill with the bat. The team ended with a score of 71 runs to St Andrews 39 to start the day well.

The team then faced Christchurch in a game which they knew if they won, they would have a place in the county final. The team were up to bowl first and again started very strong Noah B, Caleb C and Xavier B both bowling with great pace and precision to take some wickets . Christchurch finished with a good score of 56. The team had to bat well to win and Christchurch took some early wickets which added to their score it was looking like the team were heading for defeat but up stepped two fantastic batting partnerships consisting of Emilia P and Xavier B who hit 26 runs aswell as Noah B and Jack B who also hit 26 to take the team into the county final.

Finally, the team faced Bishop Henderson school in the county final. Captain Jack B again won the toss and the team elected to bowl first. Bishops Henderson's batsman were strong and the team did their best to keep the score to a minimum at the end of the innings Hugh Sexey had a score of 86 to beat. The Team batted very well but couldn't quite overcome a very strong Bishops Henderson team and finished runners up.

A massive well done to all the pupils who took part in both the qualifying rounds and the finals. Hopefully we can go one better next year.
