Girls' Football at Shepton Mallet

Match report Girls u11s Shepton Mallet

On 1st December a number of year 6 girls, accompanied by two girls year 5, travelled to Shepton Mallet to compete in a football competition. The girls were scheduled to play at least 3 games and possibly more, depending on the results. As there were only 3 games it meant the team had to win all 3 games in order to progress in the competition.

The first game began with a very strong start from Hugh Sexeys, with Harriet scoring 2 goals giving HSMS a 2-1 win in the opening game. The defence was kept strong by a solid partnership of Etta and Maddy.

Like the first game, the second game started strongly as Florence scored within a few minutes of kick off. The goal came from the midfield which was held by Amisha, Bethany and Tiyana. The game ended 1-0 to Sexeys; a big well done to our goalkeeper for the game (Brooke) who made a last minute save to secure the win.

The last game was tough. It was a scrappy game with not many chances, resulting in a 0-0 draw. There were good performances from Emily, Amelia and Olivia but unfortunately this wasn’t enough to win the game. The Girls won 2 games and drew 1, meaning that they missed out on a place in the final. Despite this it was a fantastic day and all the girls did amazingly well!

Thank you to all the schools involved and to Shepton Mallet sports centre for hosting the event.
