Saxons do the Double

Many congratulations to the Saxons from year 6 who secured 1st place in both the tag and tackling rugby competition. It was a beautiful morning and this helped set the scene for some thrilling and highly skilled rugby.
Some of the rugby was truly wonderful and it is always pleasing to see phases being put together and this was made possible by some excellent defending by all of the teams. Dylan was an absolute rock in defence for the Normans, putting in tackle after tackle. All were executed well and he picked the appropriate time to compete for the ball. Josh from the Normans was another player who gave absolutely everything and set a great example for his team mates. His tackle on Ronnie could be heard in the music block. Reuben and Rory of the Celts also came away with a lot of credit. They constantly rucked, tackled and carried ball against tough opponents. On another day or in a different year group the Celts could have been the winners such was the quality they had. However it was not to be but I was incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout. It says a lot about the collective spirit of that team that they never gave up and kept playing hard and fair.
Saxons emerged as the overall winners, winning all their games. Although it must be said they were made to work hard for every try. Ronnie scored a number of good individual tries for the Saxon's but they were by no means a one player team. The 3 Harrys or triple H as they were affectionately refired to were quite brilliant. Tackling well, carrying strongly and looking to pass the ball into space. Noah provided a second playmaking option to Suik and allowed the ball to move freely. The late arrival of Alfie also added another dimension to an already impressive team.

All of the players should be immensely proud of their effort and performance. Thanks also to the sports leaders who were absolutely first class and all of the teachers and support staff.
