The Hugh Sexey tennis team made the journey to Millfield Prep School for a girls and boys A team fixture; Millfield were excellent hosts. Eli made his debute for the team as a result of an absence, and he performed very well against a powerful opponent. Eli also had the opportunity to play some additional fixtures against and with the Millfield players. With the pressure removed he played some excellent shots, and demonstrated what a capable player he is. George and Sam also played well against their opponents in both the singles and doubles. Both players won some excellent points and secured a number of games. However, as is the case against experienced and skilful opponents, they struggled to close out the matches when at deuce. This is to be expected as the millfield players have greater exposure to competitions and regular coaching. I hope the boys enjoyed the occasion and it gave them a taste of a higher level of opponent.
In the girls competition, the team of Ashna, Saskia, Freya and Philippa performed very well and have clearly developed on from previous fixtures. Philippa played some lovely tennis in her first school fixture and pushed her opponent very close throughout. Saskia is developing her overall game and played some wonderful shots, whilst Ashna and Freya continue to develop.
